Can anyone recommend a decent quality 4 season Down bag for use mostly in the UK.  Preferably something a little wider than your average Mummy shaped bag, I really don't get a good night sleep in those narrow bags.  I guess something around lofting around 750 Fill power.

Any suggestions?

How rich do you feel? I'm sure PHD would make something your size, but it won't be cheap and it won't be ready for next weekend.

For a cheaper option, have you looked at alpkit? Their skyehighs come in a large size which is a little wider than normal, but I don't know whether it would be large enough for you. The SH800 is 120 quid for one more week only, and should be quite warm enough for the UK, except maybe the Cairngorms in the depths of winter  They've got a warmer one too, but a -18 comfort limit probably makes it a wee bit too warm for the rest of the year.

I found the offerings from Cumulus to be broader in the beam with a less agressive taper than other mummy shaped bags.

I'm very pleased with my 3 season Cumulus Prime 400.

The PHD Combi may be a possible "off the shelf" option, especially if they have it in their late-summer/autumn sale soon (it's been in September for a year or two, but no word yet for this year). And of course it depends if that's a sufficiently warm bag on it's own for winter for you. I rarely need anything warmer, but perhaps I sleep warmer than a lot of people.

mountain equipment dreamcatcher is your puppy, it's an amazingly good bag and the stretchyness is so good it feels like sleeping under a duvet.

Some interesting suggestions, thanks.

Both Alpkit & Cumulus seem to be reasonable prices, guess I need to find somewhere to go and look at them

The ME Dreamcatcher doesn't look to be so wide but at least I can go to my local Snow & Rock and have a look at one, although they are not cheap for the thicker ones.  PHD sale might be a good option if they have one this year.

Not sure if you can actually go look at alpkit gear in person; they're the sole distributors of their equipment so you won't find it in any shops.

Very hard to see Cumulus in advance too I think.

Also wouldn't count on seeing PHD's combi in their sale. They only ever do specific lines in their sales, and while they did do a synthetic Combi one year, I don't think they'd done their down one yet.

Sorry to be gloomy!

The Nanok "comfort" bags are a bit wider than most and good value for money.

My Cumulus Quantum 450 is quite short and narrow. OK for this little person, but maybe not for you. Check the measurements carefully as they vary between the different styles of bag at Cumulus.

The PHD Combi is a very versatile bag for someone who likes a bit of wiggle room. It's the only one I have and I use it all year round. Big enough to happily wear a fat down jacket inside it if needed.

The only place you can see the Alpkit is at their HQ in Derbyshire (unless you know someone who has one). The SkyHigh is roomy (some would say too roomy to provide optimum insulation) but I like to bury myself so it suits me over the skinny ultralight bags I've tried.

I was convinced I got mine in the sale, 2 or 3 years ago. But thinking about it, it might have been a different special deal when you bought a down Combi and another lightweight bag together.

The synthetic Combi has certainly been in a couple of sales.

The down Combi is sometimes in the PHD sale -- I got mine that way three or four years ago. I got it with a zip, for summer ventilation, and it does me year round. I had a pretty reasonable night's sleep in at last winter at about -18C, wearing a Smartwool long sleeved top, Montane down jacket and Powerstretch leggings, and also using a 3/4 length NeoAir and 8mm foam mat. Not the ideal choice under those conditions, but it was quite bearable and it pretty seldom does get that cold.

Don't know if it's just width that bothers you but ME make long bags, which may be wider, too?  PHD have made two specials for me, one of which had a bigger differential between inner and outer, so that when I lie on my side, my knees and bum don't push through to the outer - a problem for my 6'2" height.  PHD are incredibly helpful.

Look at bags with elasticated stitching (e.g. Montbell) which can make a huge difference to how constricting a bag feels without resulting in dead air volume that impairs performance. They might be outside your price range, though.

I have got a Marmot NeverWinter Long which is the widest bag I have ever owned (and I owned a few!). I wouldn't class this as a 4 season bag, but they may do one in the same range, worth a look at least.

I hate constricting bags too, and now use quilts. Not for everyone though.
