Really like the Alpkit Pipedream 800 but just wonder if there are any others you'd also recommend for 3 to 4 season use. I am pretty warm blooded so I would be quite comfortable at minus 20 in a minus 15 or 16 bag.
Looking for as light weight as possible down (no more than 1.2kg?) that also has waterproofing if possible to allow breathability/ moisture escape but prevent water coming in. Anything as good value as the Pipedreams price wise or not too far off?
Thanks,
John
Two suggests, opposite ends of the "quality" vs "value" range.
Light as possible = 800fp or 900fp.
Waterproofing, it will take longer for the down to dry if damp from sweat or any water gets inside from rain or wet clothes, so consider waterproofing separately?
Looking at PHD and their cold ratings vs your desirable rating, that aligns with a Minim 600 only 900g with 800fp (lighter if you make it 900fp, heavier if adding zips), but doesn't have neck baffle, pick the fabric for breathability/water-resistance. Or Hispar 500 890g with 900fp and baffle.
Many have said that each vendor makes "comfort" rating differently.
If concerned about the cost, usually PHD has a sale in mid/late September, and usually a Minim 500 is on sale, ISTR last sale it was about 220ukp?, but to take it down to -15C you'd have to boost it with clothing and/or a top-bag like a duvet which you'd tie around bag+mat. Overall hence quite a cost, but that might be more flexible? I was thinking of that to take my Minim 300 down to lower temps.
"... as good value as the Pipedream 800"... PHD certainly is not.
Pipedream 800 is £180 for 800g of 750fp, which is ~ to 750g of 800fp or 670g of 900fp, PHD do measure fp conservatively.
Vango often do good value. Viper 750? I own one of them, super warm. Very large packed size with all the features, only 580fp, more car-camping I'd say.
Good luck, I was thinking/researching these issues a year ago.
