I've just bought a pair of these (£65 from Cotswold) as a lightweight boot for winter rambling on paths or roads. Scarpa reccomend either their own HS12 (which has worked well for me on my SLs) or Aqueous Nikwax.

Any thoughts as to pros / cons of either / both?

You git, I've just paid full rrp for a pair

Either Nik wax aqueous or old school wax will be fine on leather, try to get in the habbit of cleaning them and proofing them hen you get back ( I never do )  the aqueous works better when damp so it's ideal to do this before you go out. I haven't done anything to mine yet and they are still pretty repellent after 60 miles or so, it's when the toe are flexes and wears you need to be weary.

Hs12 for a proper going over when they startvto wet out a bit in more than the odd place (i.e. When they stay wet for more than say 30 mins) and nikwax for a top up as you go along.

Or just use hs12 all the time.

I think hs12 is far superior to nikwax but the boots need to be dry

Kish - can you post a link please?  Looking at the Cotswold website, they are only showing goretex Rangers for £90 (which is, admittedly a good price, but not as good as £65!)

Sorry Simo (cowers shamedly).

I didn't get them off the net, Grimsby. I went into a shop in Covent Garden and found out from them. I'd telephone, if I were you (remember them?)

No, in fact I ended up telephoning them - can't remember the number but you can get it - and they found a pair my size in Reading and are sending them to me.

Nikwax now do a replacement to their old tins of wax. Its in a tube called waterproofing wax for leather. Its basically the wax just water based so good for gore tex as well as normal leather.

I've used SnoSeal and others like Nicwax, don't notice any differance, apart from SnoSeal 'takes up' better than other wax treatments and leaves boot 'less' greasy.

I've used SnoSeal on two pairs of boots, SL's and G/F's cheepo Millets one's, (don't know brand or name) and so far haven't leaked through leather.
