Hi all just purchased a pair of these shoes to see if they are the way forward to replace my North Face Hedgehogs
Mainly intended for walking the dog between 2 and 10 miles I have the correct size but my heels seem to move inside the shoes I have only used them twice with no adverse effect just a strange feeling
Anyone else had this problem and have a solution or do I just get used to it or buy some new Hedghogs
I realise that they are a more substantial product

I've worn targhee mids for a few years and love them but tried on the shoes and found the same problem you are experiencing. For shoes I stick to Hedgehogs......

Its just one of the many ways in which shoes can choose not to fit Not totally sure but think it might be fixable by playing with the lacing, or even thicker socks.

Sometimes though simply not curable - for a drastic case, with inov8's stuff I can lace them up and then take my feet out of the shoe without unlacing them.....

Perhaps not critical for dog walking, but it does matter because (best I can tell after doing mine and checking) a snug heel fit is basically where you're getting all your stability/ankle support etc from.

On a tangent, I'd be a tiny bit wary of assuming the current hedgehogs fit based on old ones. The hedgehog III's I've very briefly picked up feel very different to the older ones. Different sole unit it seems, but a lot stiffer too. Do wish companies would stop doing that!

Or, perverse though it may sound, thinner socks! They can ensure your feet fit more securely into the heel cup whilst thicker socks might push your foot out slightly.

The key thing is to try out a range of pairs and see if you get a better fit.

I've found, with all the keen footwear that I've had, that if I try to wear that at first with a snug fit that I get areas of pain. If I then loosen them a tad and wear them like that for a few days then the pain stops BUT I can then retighten them. Weird. Maybe it's just an odd breaking in thing.

I have the MK2 boots and really like them.  Due to this I looked at getting the shoes to go with them for when I needed something a little lighter and, yes, I got the exact same problem as you - a slipping heel!

Unfortunately I was in a bit of a rush and did not really have time to try any inserts or other solutions in the shop at the time.  In the end I got some Merriels but found the soles a bit hard...

I have not given up on the Keens and I hope to get some to fit one way or the other.

James

I had a pair of Hedgehogs for years until the soles wore out and they where an outstanding trail runner.

I have been using the Keens for a while and they are very good but the sole and the Hedgehogs had far better grip.

Just an update used them for a couple of days around town and the problem seems to have solved itself have walked 10 miles in them with no problems
They seem to be comfortable and very cushioned underfoot if a little bulky compared to the Hedgehogs
