If I was doing that I would go the paramo route without a doubt. I tried a friends and it was just too hot for me hiking, but easily the most comportable jacket I have worn. If I was fishing it would defintiely be first choice over a shell. There are a few paramo jackets that might fit the bill I think.
Goretex and eVent are pretty similar as far as I am concerned, particularly for an activity which doesnt have you sweating (if you are really active then eVent is better although Gore's Active shell seems like it may be as good on the breathability front). I dont think you would have an issue with either although the heavier variants may outlast the lighter shells.
None of the shells provide and insulation so you couldnt call them 'warm' but they are more versatile in my opinion. Obviously you team then up with a fleece for insulation or a down jacket for a bit more warmth.
no it doesent need to be light all i want is to be gurantedd i wont get wet and ill be warm i.e windproof,
but its probably goung to get very dirty too so i have to take this into consideration its very hard to choose when there are so many, and i have had no experience with any in the past.
If it's going to regularly get dirty (wet n muddy? - abraded) , personally I'd avoid eVent, and lightweight goretex. (the face fabrics vary between brands)
The jackets you mention are all mountain jackets and I'd suggest that they are not really suitable for long term fishing use.
Double ventile? A nice waxed jacket? Hell, there's even goretex pro-shell stuff. In miserable conditions, you will get soggy under paramo gear, but you should at least be warm and comfy. Are you intending to be camping?
I wouldn't worry about warmth so much; you can easily layer any shell with a fleece top of some description that'll keep you warm but still breathe well and dry quickly as necessary, and you can lose the warm layer in nicer weather.
I've got a berghaus pro-trek... its a nice jacket and reasonably priced (or at least, it was when I got it in a sale ) and I've used it in some pretty foul weather doing windsurfing photography (strong winds and heavy horizontal rain for a couple of hours). Fine for hiking too. The pro-shell fabric seems pretty robust so far. I find it much more useable in warmer weather than my Paramo gear.
If you're feeling rich, Patagonia have a range of gear specifically designed for fishing... I've got no idea whether its gimmicky, overpriced or useful, and no way of telling as my experience with fish all involves the bit after they get caught.
fond this think this is the daddy for what im after thanks for the help guys regatrds lee
Er, if you're sure that's what you want, go ahead but it is only Goretex so won't be warm, just waterproof. Also, $400?. At $1.50 / £1, that's £267. Add in carriage, VAT, import duty and handling charges and you won't see any change from c£360. This is probably why Sportfish is selling the same item for £379 here plus of course you will have no problems with returns or aftersales service.
Folk on here whinge about the price of outdoor clothing targeted at walkers but we get it cheap compared to kit targeted at fishermen. I can't think of any walker's Goretex jacket (or any other kind of waterproof jacket for that matter) that retails at £379. Even a Gucci brand like Haglofs "only" charges £350 for its Spitz jacket (and that is Snow & Rock's price).
