A result for those with defective Silva compasses.
My compass, which was some years old, became defective so I sent it back to Silva and they just replaced it for a new one. Amazing.

The needle began to stick and therefore did not point to North all of the time.

I originally thought I had lost the ability to navigate but upon purchasing a new one found that it was the compass (a bad tradesman always blames his tools and all that)
It is a shame that I bought a new one first Doh!
As for Silva, they did not tell me what was wrong, just sent me a brand spanking new compass
I had to tell every one as I was expecting a nil result.

I've got a Silva Expedition 4 compass that did exactly the same to me on the top of Pen Y Fan - I ended up heading down the wrong ridge for a 1km or so before I realised my mistake.

I've replaced it with a Silva Ranger 15 now but do you recokon I should try sending it back to?

I cracked the housing on my old and trusted Expedition 4 and as a result got covered in what smelt like Paraffin oil. I sent Silva an email, they told me to send it back and sent me out a brand-spankers one free of charge, no quibbles! Superb customer support.
