Um, try things. Everything you can find probably Its how they fit on you - with weight in! - that matters. And, especially at your height, thats far from automatic.
At 6'5", although it is of course torso length not full body length, you'll almost certainly find at least some rucksacks not long enough for you. You might well need a long back version, which would rather limit your choices. Adjustable backs might do it.
The Friluft looks fairly middle of the road weight/feature wise so plenty of ball park options.
Thanks for your reply. I have been trying on some rucksacks recently, the only one i really got on with is the Talon from Osprey. I already have the 33 and its a cracking pack.
Have you seen the exos? Do you know if the material on the Exos is the same as on the talon??
If your torso is average for your height (i.e. you haven't got a long body compared to your legs or vice versa) then the AK47 would probably not suit even in their longer size.
I am your height too and tried the AK47 on with a load in it at a good outdoors shop. With a load in you feel how the straps and fit are for you. I am fairly average for 6'5" really and the back length was slightly too short for me. Now that is not totally an issue for some sacks as you can loosen the shoulder straps a tad to keep the hipbelt in the load bearing position on your hips. However doing that with the AK47 means the heavily curved (S-shaped) straps are now in totally the wrong place. Since these straps actually felt like they had a hard fabric and material it dug in badly into my shoulders. In fact it felt like it was my collar bone it affected. Either way I would only last about 20 minutes with a load on (the shop load was 8kg and I would carry from 6.5kg to 15kg depending on trip in it).
Just some comments on the AK47 for 6'5" people.
Exos is a different feeling fabric. I looked at that one too in the same shop. Personally I don't like the Osprey sacks. They came into the market as a lightweight sack but have gotten a bit lardy IMHO. I have also heard a lot of negatives about the useable space in their airspace frames sacks like the Atmos. One comment was "50 litres, my arse!!" To give you an idea one mate went from the 50 litre atmos absolutely stuffed and items strapped to the outside to a Berghaus 45 litre with everything inside and room spare. Osprey are a good make if you like them.
upi vms get a large size and lengthen the back length at the belt.
You don't need to modify new sacks to get something right, just get the right sack for you in the first place. IME there are always options out there for someone like the OP and I who are both 6'5" tall without modifying. Of course from my experience with trying the Crux that tip of your's would not work. It needs either a longer shoulder strap length before the curves or a longer back length. I have had custom sacks made with longer length but IME with the right sack for you with straighter shoulder straps you can get a very stable carry even if the sack length is not right.
BTW UPI? VMS? Just looked up the first one and Ugly P-n-s Itcher is what I came up with.
