Peter,

You are welcome to it, the zip needs a stitch or two as I remember but other than that it's in good nick. What size are you?

Mark

My zipless DPM is a large and fits pretty well so I guess that should do it.

Mark, your usage lists sound similar to what I observed on a three-day exercise (and seemed sensible when thought about a bit). I was going to suggest personal survival kit be kept close, i.e. in pockets, but wanted to keep my post short.

In spite of what my non-de-net might suggest, I have no military experience other than said three days with the Gurkhas on Salisbury Plain (I worked on Racal's Bowman bid), and running around in the woods annoying soldiers when I was a kid. Think of superheroes, not military... ;-)

Yes, it's probably big enough...

Buffalos and Sleekas seem very popular with the men in green, though?

Rightly so too Capt... I am a big Buffalo fan, however they are always worn under the combat smock and so will not have to put up with the high level of abrasion, additionally the pockets would not be jam packed full of equipment.

On a patrol pretty much every pocket (8 in the case of the standard windproof smock) would be full of assorted clobber.

I have a list of the equipment a recce patrol member might expect to carry (and where it 'should' be carried) if you, or anyone else, is remotely interested.

Well perhaps not here as it runs to a couple of sides but I will certainly make the effort to get it into electronic format from the dog eared a4 it is now...

eye opener? Maybe...

Shit bags? (always double bag!, try to sneak them into someone elses bergen)

The fact that blood chits & sovereigns are sewn into yr trousers might cause unsuspecting squaddies to be kidnapped and stripped nekkid all over Europe...

I made a note of the list of personal and other kit supposedly carried by SAS on active ops (thinking I might pick up some useful fieldcraft tips), from one of the TV programmes (featured a couple of the guys from the Iranian embassy siege).

I was boggled by the amount of stuff they carried. I don't think I picked up any useful tips, either; I'm unlikely to need 350 rounds of 5.56mm ammo...

It's so mission dependent that one list will not be like any other. From my point of view on LRRPs we would do everything possible to avoid contact so we will reduce the ammo down to 100 -150 per bloke, thats a massive weight saving even with 5.56

However we did have silly stuff to carry like drain pipe and a door... ;) really

Military waterproofs, in my experience (ex RAF), is pretty good, when they're new! I personally wouldn't buy used military surplus waterproofs.

Dutch? Goretex bib trews are ace.  Maybe a touch heavier than modern stuff but they last
