For familes I have found that www.littleoutdoorshop.com are brilliant for childrens outdoors clothes, free next day delivery was a bonus - ive also brought a back carrier from there so the kids are well and truly sorted. Now its time to kit out my wife and me However, obviously ive had a look arond for adult gear but i was wondering what the best deals are out there? We're just starting out in terms of getting outdoors more as a family, i know there is blacks, gooutdoors.com ect... just wondered what others thought?

Theres outdoors and theres outdoors I guess you'd need to be a bit more specific about what your looking to do. Also do you have an idea on rough budget?

http://www.theoutdoorshop.com/ in Stony Stratford is always near the mark moneywise. Decent discount with BMC of 20% if they don't have it cheaper than RRP.

If you are pretty clear what you want...and have the patience to watch...and watch.. here

You will be hard pushed to beat Backpacking Light UK for service.

I found Craigdon Mountain Sports to be good, plus the outdoors shop like Kelvin said.

The "Phoenix Bar in Dundee" serves tremendous bar meals, and some nice guest beers.

That looks like startlingly appropriate spam, "soner", I'm quite conflicted In addition to the above suggestions, I've also used http://www.climbers-shop.com/, http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/, http://www.openair.co.uk/ (my local shop) more than once, and several others just the once because they happend to have something I wanted, going cheaply. I've also done reasonably well out of the UKC and OM classifieds. Basically, there is no 'best'. No-one stocks the full range of anything, and no-one has consistently the best prices. Your best bet is to search the interwebs for what you want at the price you're willing to pay for it. If you had any specific items you were interested in, you might get a slightly more helpful answer

I'd strongly second the Climber's Shop [post above this one]. They provide excellent service, have a pretty wide range of stock and are always ready to talk to you on the phone before you order. And, also in Ambleside, I like this one too: http://www.themountainfactor.com/ Slightly eccentric stock range, but again ultra-helpful.

Been looking on the North Face outlet but prices are in $ as defult (i know you can change that!) is this a UK shop? I suppose its small treks with the little ones in tow, so not needing equipment thats ultra technical, just want to avoid the crap on the high street! Primarily a couple of jackets and trousers! Thanks for the links, i'll check them out (even Google !! ) Always perfer to get suggestions from others rather than the sites that pay to go to the top of google

Fieldandtrek.com have some stupidly heap deals. Got some basic winter base layers for £6 at the mo! Bought a montane light speed for £38 (40% off) and an outdoor research fraction hoody for £43 (about 70% off) yesterday!

You need to be careful with TNF outlet shops: some are not what they seem and sell knocked-off or counterfeit kit. Clue is usually in the contact details- either not there or a weird throwaway email address. And yes, I bought something from one of them once....

Great shop - apart from my Paramo gear I've bought everything else from them - highly recommended.
