Wow, just had to write to tell of the wonders of this little vest. I cannot believe how something can be so warm (800 fill) and feel like wearing a cloud.

My Neutrino is filled with pure European goose down where the TNF Nuptse is filled with inferior, 700 fill duck down (max 7 weeks old too!). Side by side, the quality of manucturing is planets apart.

Hey, I'm sure many of you are happy with your Nuptses, however, those thinking of buying a down vest for winter, please do yourself a favour, shell out the extra £10 or so and go for the RAB.

I wouldn't say 700fp down is inferior, although the quality of design and manufacture of some newer TNF gear definitely is. But if you want really light, warm and luxurious then try the PHD Ultra vest, with 900fp down -- probably my most self indulgent buy, but worth it.

True Guy, just meant run of the mill duck compared to goose for the same money (give or take a tenner). Yeah, i think the latest Nuptses are poor, just don't feel right.

Gotta be honest mate, I didn't even shortlist the PHD. That's a cracking looking vest too, only wished I'd seen it last week...

Well yessss. But most people buying Nuptses probably getting them for casual wear?! Thats a genuinely absurd thing to be doing in the UK, but anyway.....

For that use, they're probably better than the Neutrino. The quantum face/liner on the Neutrino is fine for insulation but just won't put up with the abuse casual clothing routinely gets. The moderate weight difference isn't terribly relevant. From RAB the microlite would actually do rather better. (tougher outer fabric and the micro baffles compressing the loft (and warmth a bit) not serious for a change!).

Very different if camping etc of course. Oh, if I ever saw anyone wearing an ultra vest on the street I might well be tempted to go and get my hose Its tempting enough with normal down but seeing something so utterly lovely and dedicated used like that.....

S'pose so. If i was only hacking around town I would have bought something entirely different. Don't think TNF market their Nuptses for townies though, with their 'reinforced shoulders' to aid the carrying of skis or abrasive rucksack straps...

Although I do go camping, a lot, most of the wear I plan to get out of the Neutrino will be camping with the kids from my school (as A D of E instuctor). Not too demanding, but plenty of late nights keeping an eye on the 'littluns'!

PHD looks wonderful, although I do like the idea of a full zip (getting myself ready to be crucified)

Full zips a toreable heresy I think, slightly less sure about zipped pockets

Well if TNF aren't marketing the Nuptses at non townies then I do wonder who else. The spec really is very average at best for camping but you get tons of them in the shops so they must go somewhere.....

Blimey mate, it's only a zip!

5th post and I'm off, this is no fun whatsoever, I didn't realise it was a competion in garrulousness (ironic, get it!).

Three zips actually

Still the weight difference for zipped pockets is actually roughly comparable to that from 700 vs 800fp down. A full main zip is rather more.

Only genuinely relevant for pedantic gram counters of course
