Hello all,

I'm looking for a decent hardshell size XXL which is not "Atheletic Fit".. Used to be comfy in a Berghaus XXL and my Paramo Alta is good XXL size too.. Have a North Face Hyvent lightweight, which is also a good fit.

The Paramo is fantastic but too warm, and I'm concerned about some of the reports of driving rain and the Paramo wetting out..

Berghaus / Jack Wolfskin, all seem to be tight around the tummy!

So what do you recommend ? Any brands out there do a decent Mountain Spec GoreTex // Event Jacket, which can cope with the worst of the UK Hills and Mountains can throw at it, yet have a comfy fit in the stomach area and are XXL !

Please help, hours of surfing the internet has yet to find such a beast.

Andy

Rohan typically "understand the fuller figure", so may be well worth a try.  I'm "L" in most folks stuff, and on the smaller side of Rohan's "Medium", so though the waterproofs only go up to XL note that their idea of XL gives 42-44" waist.

Pete.

Try Arcteryx. I have a Beta AR and that is pretty generous. Definitely not athletic fit. Very comfortable, super durable and very water and wind proof.

Hi Peter - Thanks for that, I have some old Rohan Bags, but never thought about trying on their jackets!

Nick - Arcteryx, sounds a good option, so long as I can sneak the funds past the SWMBO!

SWMBO, ehehehehe. I wont lie, I thought about if for a long time before I paid that much for a jacket. In the end I convinced myself it was worth it as it is the best fit I have ever found, I am outdoor A LOT and that at that price it should be a long term investment. So far I have never been disappointed by this jacket. Never wetted through, even during hours of torrential rain in Scotland and it can take a beating. I have had it over a year now and not a mark on it!

I think it is money well spent!

Most Marmot jackets are sized for the US market. I had to go down two sizes for a Precip jacket. They do a range of Pro & Performance Goretex jackets as well.

Hey Rocky, Marmot makes some really nice jackets but I have never used them or tried them. You think they are good?

Well I only own the Precip jacket, which I've had for a few years. I bought it as a cheap waterproof (it uses Marmots basic fabric) for trail riding and summer walking, primarily because it has decent ventilation.
I've only tried on other Marmot jackets and whilst they ticked rudimentary boxes for me, I can't comment further than that.

Cheers Rocky. What is their own material like?

Variable - they've got a few types of Membrain. It'll be the same with their jackets overall. They're a massive outdoors company with a massive range so some will be good for intended purposes, some probably less so
