Hi, I'm looking for a quality waterproof to take camping/hiking/backpacking through a variety of climates and weather. First I'll be going on a 'taster' to the Lakes and maybe Scotland, then I'm hoping to go further afield. Europe or S. America. You will probably be sick of me soon because I will be looking for adivce on a fair few things before I go.
Ok, the jacket. I need it to be:
* fully waterproof, gore-tex pro or event most likely
* a NON-helmet hood OR one that has excellent adjustment eg ME stealth hood
* relatively tough, ideally with strengthened high abrasion areas
* cut for multi-use - not too short, not too long
* at least two ext. pockets, rucksack compat. but NOT stupidly high (for hands)
* relatively slim fitting
Ideally I'd like an ME Ogre, but unfortunately after risking a purchase online without trying it on, the 'small' was too big for me. If they did an XS it would be perfect. Length is 2/3 inches too long (but forgiveable - I know it's the style of the jacket), the width is a couple of inches too wide too (but again, I could live with it) but what really lets it down is the arms - far too long and absurdly baggy. Hood is incredible though!
Can you recommend a similar jacket which has a smaller cut? Ive been looking at the Morheus - tried it on in Cotwolds but can't bloody remember how it fit. I'm about 5.5 and quite slim if that helps. So what maybe a short cut for some of you might be 'average' for me.
Jackets I'm considering: ME Morpheus & Tupilak; Montane Atomic DT2, Venture, Evolution; Rab Latok Trek (Cotswold model).
Montane seems to be a slimmer fit and I've heard the Morpheus and Tupilak are cut smaller than the Ogre. Obviously a smaller size benefits me not just in terms of fit, but also reduced bulk and weight for backpacking.
Any advice is greatly appreciated and much needed.
thanks. C
