Dave, that is the major advantage of the 'naff' Paramo colours. I have a light green Velez smock ; however it was about £80 because, let's face it, who's going to buy that colour?!! I do also have a bright red Fuera which is dead cool and reminds me of how infinitely inferior my bright red Peter Storm Kaghoul, of similar outward appearance, was back in 1977!!!

hmm green and red, do they mix well or are you looking to go to a harvest festival dressed as a half ripe pepper? ah well in fact my (old) peter storm kag was bright green and came down almost to my knees! at least with the brown if I take a tumble it shouldnt show too much I have never really thought about the colour matching of my kit since i tend to buy the cheapest available of a piece of clothing or kit. Oh well.... Noel Edmonds eat yer heart out

We obviously need to get Trinny and Susannah to an OM meet

My point was if you are spending that kind of money then it's not unreasonable to expect it to look nice. I used to have to wear suits for work (thank god i dont anymore) and being quite short and plump (i'm working on it) and having a generally scruffy air about me I found it frustrating. it's not so much i try to match my kit as i dont want it to unmatch - see what i mean? must admit the new season is looking better... i particulary had issues with the box cut of the alta... off camping - woohoo

Being of the short legged variety myself - I quite like the cut of the Alta. Between the bottom of the jacket and the top of my gaiters it doesn't leave that much to get wet... {scratches head and thinks about this statement} The jacket does extend down to my thighs...

It's just a general quibble i have with the outdoor industry, not just paramo. Just got back from walking around hope valley and all the styles are that little too high, my rucksacks are always too small or too large (for a proper fit of the hipbelt) and unless i order trousers direct i have to get them taken up which ruins the cut, the fabric and the positioning of the pockets. On a bonus note having my montane gillet come just past the bum is brilliant when sitting in beer gardens. Also going to treat myself to a phd short sleeping bag - thankgod theres a company that realises we dont all come in standard size.... Oh - and we live in Manchester and find Paramo hard to find. I swear by the t-shirts as a base layer and buy them in Go Outdoors (stockport) for £15 a go.

I know that Paramo folk sometimes dip into this thread. Questions need to be answered in THIS thread however about the Fuera and Nikwax products.

I have invested heavily in Paramo clothing recently, including the Fuera smock. I gave it the TX wash-in treatment and it does what I expected it to do, it "deflects" rain. ie raindrops roll of it, but it is not waterproof. Despite that, I prefer the TX treated Fuera to my previous Berghaus Paclite smock. I sometimes wear it like a shirt next to the skin with the sleeves rolled up, it's a versatile jacket.

Just to hammer the point home; the Fuera is not Waterproof! Nothing short of several coats of yacht varnish will make it so. Trust me on this. If you don't believe me, look at the little patch on the arm. It states quite clearly; "Windproof". Edited to add: That's a Windproof and water-resistant Fuera Smock that I'm wearing in my wee piccie btw.

"....the Fuera is not Waterproof!...." Thought I said that.

"Thought I said that." You did, hence my "hammering the point home". I was merely backing you up. As it were.

the yacht varnish does give it a lovely shine though. i've encapsulated the small coins of europe in mine. buggers up the breathable aspect a bit and makes an awful noise in the washing machine.

"I was merely backing you up. As it were." Ahh, I see! Backup accepted.

Heh sorry to bring this up again - what an interesting thread! I couldn't help but see that Shippertons comments regarding a separate hydrophobic pumping layer went largely unappreciated. Seems to me that this would be an excellent idea - to be able to just buy the pumping layer individually to wear under a Fuera in warm rain rather than having to wear a fleece under the Fuera which would be too hot in summer. Basically the same as an analogy jacket but two separate layers? Am I right in thinking an analogy jacket is just made of those two layers? Also hello to Rowan on this thread - went to same school

if it's warm you don't need the "pump" layer really with a fuera. you dry out quite quickly when the rain stops.

By the way, why do paramo only make trousers up to 33" long? I have had mine for about 14 years despite not being happy with the length. Most manufacturers stop at 33" leg length but others seem to produce up to 2" longer (without having to resort to a clown size of waist). Someone posted that they could only do different leg lengths or different colours, but it seems they only really do two lengths (short and shorter). Time manufacturers offered different sizes, even if it is by special order only. Paramo, how about it? Got a £100 ready for you if you want it!! BTW paramo is good to put over wet trousers as the pumping effect will dry it out very quickly. In winter the warmth and pumping really works well. I only wear the trousers now if it is sustained rain or I get really wet such as from falling in somewhere wet through the snow.

PaulB - for custom-made Nikwax gear go to Cioch
|
 |
probably the same reason why other other manufacturers don't make shorter leg lengths than 33". i think you mean your trousers dried very quickly under the cascadas as the moisture could pass readily through the liner. for anything to "pump" it has to be in contact. and "pump" in a paramo context is capilliary action which has to be in contact with water. it is highly unlikely that the liner was in contact with water.
