Morning All, (or evening if abroad)

Has anyone had a play with one of these?

Rumour has it they are better and more fun/dangerous than squeezing a rubber ball to develop climbing arm muscles. Although less discreet for exercising in the office.

Also looks like it could be compulsory for a meet (if I ever get to one, sniff)

I have one....
They are pretty good, once you spin it up, it does tire your arm, so it must be doing something. It seems to exercise the hand/grip, wirst, arm and shoulder, which is quite good!

I have not followed the link above, but you can get them for varying prices, ones with rev counters/ flashy lights are quite nice, but the plain version is best if you just want the exercise. Get one with a rubber rand around it, as mine is just shiny plastic and can be hard to grip.

As and when you get one, when you are using it, try not to let it 'kick' -you will find out what this means - it damages its bearings and makes it rattle.

I have used mine in conjunction with one of those springly grip exercisers which has made my smaller fingers stronger and strengthened the tendons in my forearms.

Powerballs are slightly addictive. -Try spinning it up by hand, ie without the string.

Basically, they are a gyroscope mounted in a plastic ring. the ring is held in the main housing, so that it can turn round. If you are with me so far, you will realise that the gyroscpoe can rotate on its axis, and it can twist round within the housing.

To play with the thing, you start the gyroscope spinning and then with deft hand action, you can increase its speed. The faster it goes, the harder it is to hold and move the powerball.

Thanks for that. It's just that it is recommended for arthritis. I'll ask the physio about it - it sounds like fun
