Hi.

I've found what could be the ultimate midge protection:

http://www.midgejacket.co.uk

The Rothiemurchus Rangers use them and reckon they're 'brilliant'. I've just bought one and they're very well made - fast delivery too! I can't wait to try it out, but we don't have midges in Herts. - anyone want to send me some?

Just back from Kielder water. Got eaten alive. We found that however good the protection, there will always be the odd super midgy that gets you so dont spend too much on protection. WE used midge spray that was 100% deet (diethelmetatolumide,) keeps them out but the spray kills if you have a cut. We also used headnets but if they get inside the midges just comfort eat.

The Midge Jacket comes down to the waist which is elasticated, as also are the wrists (with wide cuffs). There's no way a midge could get in unless it's trapped inside when putting the jacket on. I rekon the midge jacket is going to be one of my 'best buys'! BTW, isn't there a health issue with deet?

Hi y,all

Heres a bit of info on the dreaded highland (and lake land) midge...

http://www.stevecarter.com/ansh/midge.htm

BTW just came home knackered via a 7 hour drive from Fort William in the highlands.

Also toured some of the shops up there (as one does) and discovered the bug jackets.

Cheapo £15 jobbies looked as fragile as grans tights but a local firm make a better quality item for about £20 with P+P.

Just don,t scratch that itch...

Si
