Those cheap and cheerful 4 led headlamps from Lidls that I bought have ended up fixed to either side of my caving helmet as emergency lights in place of the heavier diving torches that I had on it. I therefore needed a replacement head torch for walking the local mountains on my dog walks.

Apart from the shop assistant having a sense of humour and telling me to go to the Indian takeaway when I said I wanted to look at a tikka, he was most helpful.

So, with my caving club discount, I picked up a Petzl Tiika Plus for 25 pound.

Nice bit of kit. I particularly like the different intensity levels for battery preservation, and the flashing mode for emergency use which extends the battery life to 400 hours.

80 hour battery life from the 3 aaa cells is not too bad for a 4 led torch either.

So far, very pleased!

With all this walking gear crossing over in to caving I was wondering if my old FX2 would be any good for walking? :-)

While the word tikka seems to be more associated with food in the UK, back in India it refers more often than not to the red vermillion dot on the forehead - close to where the Tikka goes. Hot food, on the other hand, is usually said to be tikha. In case anyone is interested in such trivia...
