I was out on the local 500m peak today with the intention of coming down late to try my new Petzl Myo5 that Santa brought me. The weather eased slightly and I set off from the trig point after a nice cuppa from my flask, leds on the bright setting, I strode on with confidence, pah, that old zoom will stay in the back of the van.
Then I was ankle deep in water, it turns out that the even spread of light from the leds doesn't show up standing water very well, or any water that isn't racing down a burn for that matter. I played around between the led and halogen settings and the halogen makes a double ring, one on the water surface and one on the bottom, or at least a line of light partially penetrating the water. The leds just shimmer with no hint of depth at all.
The huge amount of clear water on the hill made this quite "fun" on the way down. Anyway, I thought it was interesting, but the novelty will wear off.
