Has anyone tried this yet? Looks like a great item for throwing over the top of whatever you are wearing for stops/belays.
Apolgies if this has already been discussed, couldn't find it in a search.

Hi Marky Considered this and Snugpak Sleeka.Bought the Sleeka eventually and I am not sorry..worth a look.
Thanks Ross but the two are very different jackets, their are lots of similar garments to the Sleeka that I would consider if I was looking for a synthetic duvet jacket, the Photon Hoody for example.
The Buffalo appeals as it looks just the thing to throw on over a shell even if it is P'ing down!

I agree they very different but the Snugpak performs well when wet also. I got a Rab Vector(waterproof Photon, more or less)but it aint as warm as the Sleeka.Buffalo Belay got excellent following as well,so I'm sure it would be an excellent choice.

Cheers Ross, got serious jacket envy now.....

I know..me too..think I'm getting to the point where I'll just buy everything !! Good job my wife keeps her eye on me and my wallet or I'd have bought a Buffalo and Snugpak and tossed a coin on days out !!!

I looked at the Buffalo and nearly brought one. I then did myML and one of the other people had a Mardale. This is still made of fibre pile/pertex same as the Buffalo ,but has a yoke of a tougher material and also on the forearms. I ended up with a Mardale and have never regreted it. I did a web search for mardale and purchased on line cost me £80.00 three years ago.

Dave, which Mardale did you get?
The Sleeka jacket is wonderful! Immediate warmth when you stop, compresses emough to live in the bottom of even a small sack, and great for throwing on just to walk in town on freezing days as well. It is also specifically designed to be warm when soaked through (originally for military use so important) unlike many other insulated jackets. The cheapest place to get the Sleeka is NorthWest Supplies (yes, I really did look up every supplier in the country to get the cheapest!!!) at about £59

I did get one in the end Cara-Lyn & thanks for the feedback you gave.Very nice on the cold, wet Beacons recently, which is on my doorstep !
Yup, instant warmth and toastiness in vile conditions. I was thinking the other weekend that if I ever DID get stranded up a mountain in cold wet weather, it would be a lifesaver!
I purchased the the alpine pile system, but as a pullover. I now only wear a shell when it's raining hard or snowing.
I just found the Mardale web address.
Please note I am talking about the Buffalo Belay jacket not the standard Buffalo...
I realise that. It was my choice after looking at the pull-over and the jacket. The quality is superb and delivery is good. I would buy another one and its my top outdoor buy.
Does the hood attach to the belay jacket well, and will it keep doing so?
Yes, it's attached by a velcro strip along the collar, the same as the special 6 smock, it's good 'n thick velcro and mine hasn't moved in 2 yeas, the velcro is good enough that I sometimes hang the jacket by the hood as if it was built in.
I too attach hood and find it a really strong attachment and also hang it from there. However, having owned both, I would not buy a buffalo hood but would use a Montane hood instead. I replaced mine and have found it to be much better. A good face covering (the Buffalo velcro on pad is particularly poor and liable to be lost I think), a wired peak and toggle adjustments. Available direct from Montane on web etc and typically cheaper.
