Has anyone heard of or even better tried Keen (thats the manufacturers name) sandals such as the Mens Portland leather? The current Ellis Brighan catalogue states that this is the fastest growing footwear brand in the world.
Opinions welcomed.

I bought a pair of the Men's leather Nevadas about a month ago - so far I'd say they are excellent. I've been wearing them out on walks and I think I'll use them in the summer for valley walks in the Alps in preference to the Salamon shoes I normally use. The fit on them is on the wide side - which is good for me.

they r really popular in USA bigger than teva

suprising that no one seems to stock them, EB and cotswold do have them but their supply is limited

enquire in other firms if u want to try for example blacks don't as far as i know stock them but we could order them

I bought mine from Snow & Rock in Chertsey - they might be on their website.

They've only just started being imported into the UK. I have a pair on test here and so far I can't fault them for build quality and comfort. You can even throw the leather ones in the washing machine, it says here.

Nice and roomy too. I think they're looking good. If you search the gear news section, there's an article about them coming into the UK. Be aware though that not all the models listed on the UK site are actually available here so far.

Any girlie styles available please?

I have a pair of Teva's currently and they're fab for fit and style and comfort, except the sole on them gets well stinky. I only have to wear them once or twice and they pong like gorgonzola cheese! Even when scrubbed with strong soap.

I've had exactly the same problem with Tevas, so far my Keens seem pretty pong free.

thanks to all for your suggestions, much appreciated and I'm convinced, now if I can just find somewhere in the South West to try some on!

I've tried on quite a few styles at work and I like them. They have quite a wide fit and they seem very comfortable, I'd happily wear them in slightly more rugged terrain. The closed-toe on their sandals is particularly cool I think.

Any comments on the cordlock on the Taos sandal/shoe? Maybe I'm pulling them too tight, I seem to need to for a good grip around the heel. If the cordlock would actually lock it would be OK but it seems to slip through after wearing for a while.

Dave, incase you are still searching - don't know where you are in the South West but I got mine in Exeter. There are several stockists, you'll see them listed on the UK website

I haven't tried the Taos, but I have worn the Newport which use the same cordlock system. I haven't owned that type of lacing system myself but I do see it as an inherent weakness really. I did find it difficult to get the Newport to fit tight enough round the ankle, perhaps because of my size (im a shoe size 44 but im only 17 and probably not quite adult size) but also because the lace kept slipping back through the lock. I guess it's just going to be one of those things that Keen will have to look at when designing next season's gear.

Thanks for that Ben. I noticed that Merrell use a cord lock which has a snap button that does actually lock the cord into place, it's a pity that Keen don't use this design. It would solve the problem in what otherwise seem to be a great pair of sandals.
