I love wearing my Tilley hat,,, but not when its raining.

As I can imagine what I might look like if I put the hood up of my waterproof up over one.

Matron, says its not a pretty picture.

OM stop taking the P.....

I'm not taking the P....... It's too hot for me to wear.

And I like wearing my Tilley in the rain as I HATE HOODS!

i hate hoods unless it's the only thing that will do as i find them far too hot. the fuera hood goes over a tilley hat quite nicely once you squash the brim about. if you wear a tilley (or a buff) then you already don't give a damn what you look like.

I'm not a fan of hoods either unless it's particularly noxious.

The main point of my Ultimate (Tilley-a-like) hat on a rainy day is it prevents the need for a hood more often than not. I've spent all day in the rain without putting the hood up and it's not been a problem: that's one of the reasons it's made from cotton duck, so you don't get any more than slightly damp inside.

Note full waterproof jacket and overtorusers there for proof it's raining. I typically use OTs about 3 or 4 times a year in the hills as I'll only use them when I'm bound to get completely soaked without them.

There are times when a hood works better, typically if there's a gale going on and/or you need to keep spindrift out (Tilleys and similar aren't built for winter though, so that's hardly a Deal breaker on getting one), but like an umbrella, a decent hat will keep the clag off with much less isolation from the environemnt you went out there to be in than you get from a hood.

Pete.

A double ventile hat with ventilation and a slightly sloping 3" brim, it would stiffen when wet and give decent protection---Snowsled did one but I dont think the brim offers enough protection and there's no ventilation---I've a couple of Tilleys but the hat I used most in prolonged rain is the Outdoor Research sombrero although it looks a bit excessive.
