Hmmm, the Gelert Mongoose 2-man tent...I bought one off Ebay yesterday for £30 incl p&p. I saw one in the shop for £55 and decided that it was a good value tent and all I need (for now). I am very much under the impression that it is a tent for starting out and, whilst some people say it's too heavy, it's considerably lighter than the 6.5kg tent I've lugged around in the past. I've also replaced the heavy steel pegs with some lightweight ones, which has reduced the weight considerably. I'm also pleased with the pack size, alot smaller than most equivalent tents in it's price range.
I think it's quite a bargain at that price and, what makes the auction even better is that I received it in LESS than 24 hours!!!! I pitched it in the garden and it is so easy to pitch and equally easy to pack away. It's only been up for a few hours, but it's extremely windy and it appears to be very stable. Does anyone else own one of these tents and if yes, what do you think of yours?

yeah i bought one last thursday and was camping in it on the friday for the weekend. dont forget this is a 2 Man Hiking tent. so all the weight is to be split between 2 people. I've been using an ex army 'bivvi' tent which takes up a bergen alone! now i have this i can go walking and take my tent with me. it even fits inside my day sack. one thing i do say is when i pitched it, i wasnt concentrating and am ashamed to say i didnt pitch it superbly but either way it was still definately well structured and all the winds and rain we had didnt seem to move it! only problem i found was when drunk and staggering into it its a bit awkward suatting around (specially since i cant knee because of ACL operation) I'm not into paying out hundreds of pounds for the best kit when a simple £20-50 piece of kit does the same job. STABLE, WARM, WEATHERPROOF which is why i have to give it 9/10

I used to have one and for the price I was fairly impressed with mine. Wouldn't have liked to use it for extended periods or if the weather was really poor, mind. I don't really like the tunnel style so I eventually sold mine on to somebody else on eBay. Agreed though, it's a bargain bit of kit a bit like the old Argos 1 man legend.

Perfect!! Yeah - I bought one of these on eBay in 2007 for under £30 & had lots of use out of it throughout the Summer(rain & all). Plus, on dry, hot nights the outer can be easily removed to sleep with the stars in full view. I'm a biker & found the packed size very useful & at 3.1kg I can't complain about the weight either. Easy to assemble - but found the front(feet) end to be a tad awkward to get just the right shape. Only problem was finding it in the dark when pished - otherwise its faultless & superb value for money!!

john o agree with above, bought because on motorbike and great for rallies, mainly due to pack size, not bothered about weight, if i lost a bit of weight the bike would be happier still! it is quite low so finding it at night after beers and other stuff proved fun and sociable bighter colours may help, very good ventilation, which is also a bonus, sorry dona! good value why pay 3-5 times more when you got this!!!!!!!

hi, im thinking about buying this tent for the coast to coast walk(st bees to robin hoods bay) in the middle of summer. It will be used by me 6ft and my 5.5ft freind. Do you all think it will be up to the job? considering that it will be used on open moorland and in possoble heavy winds and rain? thnx

.jpg) That's 6 (SIX) first time (and so far only) posters on this 8 post thread. That can't have happened since day 1 of OM surely? Any tent that gets people outdoors and keeps them dry(ish) has to be a good thing.

I'm buying one, looks good, thanks for your reviews.

What do you guys think about this tent for me? I'd be using it for short stays and backpacking, and I'm on a low budget so it looks ideal. Only thing that worries me is the size. I'd likely often be using this for 2 people, but probably 60% of use will be just me, however; I hear that it's not too spacious for larger people. I'm 6'3"+ and still growing and I've got pretty big feet (I hear that this can become an issue?). Thanks guys
