Boots/shoes for one year trip in China

Hi, Thanks for your help!

Next month I will start one year backpacking trip around China. My inital plan is going anywhere I can put my feet on. So I might walk on many different terrain in defferent weather(-20C --- 37C). Basically I will spend more time on road than off-road. I believe there still will be a great time in Chinese mountains but that generally will be belowe snow level. One thing is I have no experience on outdoor sport at all yet. However I have read lots infermation on the internet especially in outdoorsmagic about gears.

So, my problem is I need two pairs shoes/Boos for all year around in different weather. And I'm quite fancy scarpa during my research.
For everyday use I want helium(£80)/ neon xcr(£95)/ normal cheap trainer.
For trekking I prefer SL(£110 on sale now)/ ZG 20(£85 sale in black)/ peak.

The helium and zg 20 seem a best combination for me because the price. But I'm not sure. Need your experenced advise! Thank you!

The Scarpa SL should cover all your trekking needs during the trip. I'm not familiar with the Helium shoes.

I did a one year back-packing trip and took Scarpa SL, Merrel trainers and Teva sandals.

Foot care is important. Take medicated talcum powder such as Mycil, wash your feet at the end of your days trek and apply the powder and air your feet to dry (Teva sandals are good to wear after the day's trek).

Socks are very important too. Buy some Bridgedale Liner Socks (they are a thin pair which protect the feet) then on top of those wear a pair of Bridegdale Walking socks. This will prevent blisters and aid the removal of sweat from your foot to the boot lining. They are expensive socks but superb value as they last for five or more years even with prolonged use. They are superbly effective and during a year's trekking I did not have a single blister.

I spent one month of that trip in China and was there in winter. I visted Yangshou, Xian, Beijing and Hong Kong. Mongolia and Tibet look amazing places to visit for trekking.

Have a fantastic time! Good luck

Thank you Andrew, that's very useful! I'm going to Manchester to find my pair today. Hope there is one for me.

btw, does anybody tried helium, is it ok for everyday use?

You obviously haven't looked in the gear review section of the site...

is one review of the Helium.
