Walkhigh Mountaineering are knocking out the syncronic trackmaster for £14.99. If you want to discover whether you'd take to a digital watch/compass this is a low cost option worth considering before you lash out £200/300 on a really good piece of kit.
It has its drawbacks, the buttons are too easily inadvertently pressed during activities and may necessitate resetting and recal. Otherwise keep it in its clamshell case until needed. However it is easy to set up and calibrate and in my experience is pretty accurate.
