On the recommendation of a couple of friends recently called at Natterjacks and bought a pair of Inov8 Roclite 315s for mixed trail running and summer hill walking.
Took them out recently for an 8 mile run (mixed dune and concrete as we live on the Mersey estuary) and I felt like I had wings on. Well supported feet, good cushioning but at every step my body knew exactly where my feet were and what they were doing-something I never quite got from my Brooks which have now been consigned to the dustbin and which has just got to be good for strengthening the old ankles etc.
Next I took them for a ten mile strole in limestone country on a slightly wet day and got back to the car feeling I could carry on walking forever. Not an ache or blister or anything. And they stuck to that wet limestone like glue even on a minor scramble.
Next my teenage son decided that they were the coolest 'trainers' he'd ever sen and desparately wants a pair.
So are these genuinely the first ever genuine do absolutely everything things to put on your feet or has someone else got a pair that fell apart after 2 weeks of running or caused fatal foot rot or something else I havent quite twigged yet

Depends a bit on how you use them. I used a pair last year in the Pyrenees and after 9 days over rough trails and off trail, I had to buy some locktite to glue parts of the sole unit. Apparantly, this problem has been solved in the current batch. Silver Roclites can have this problem because the current batch are all orange ones.

Personally I prefer Terrocs over Roclites because Terrocs have more toe room (but that's a question of fit and thus personal), dry faster and give even a better trail feel than the Roclites (but they have less cushioning which could be an issue).

How quickly these shoes wear out, is difficult to say. I've walked 600-700 km with my first pair of Terrocs but the sole of my current pair shows a lot of wear and even a crack after less than 200 km.

I find Roclites great. I have Terrocs too (had them first) and they're excellent on everything except hard trails and tarmac when the lack of cushioning gets me. They're going strong after a lot of use, don't know exactly but several hundred miles, and scrambling too.

The Roclites are much more comfortable for me on hard ground but handle other terrain pretty well too. My first (silver) pair had the problem with the sole beginning to peel after only 90 miles (including use in the Pyrenees!)

After a bit of haggling Inov-8 replaced them with a new pair of the revised-sole orange ones. They sat in the box over the winter, then I put them on this year - their first outing was the Yorkshire 3 Peaks (24 miles), followed by the Garburn Trail Race (off-road half-marathon), a week walking on Dartmoor, and then the Bowland Challenge (24 miles of supreme bog in the pouring rain!). Supremely comfortable throughout, no foot problems at all, around 150 miles so far and no signs of wear and tear on this pair! :)

Thanks guys, that's really good to know. I've got the orange ones (took some getting used tooo but thats the bit my son thinks is ubercool) and thought sticky rubber deep lugs arent going to survive much tarmac and stone but your comments are deeply encouraging. Think they'll be getting a lot of use. Appreciate your comments.

My Roclites have been relegated to driving shoes and for around town. They are the old style, couple of the lugs have been re-glued on with superglue. I found they pushed my feet out, as if the arches were higher than was comfortable. I got as many blisters with them on the West Highland Way, as I did in my Scarpa ZG65s on the Southern Upland Way.

I'm hoping to try out the Namches on a yo-yo coast to coast tomorrow.

ps: never had any trouble with the Terrocs, but I've only spent 4 days on the trot with them, and not trail-bashing.

I have a pair and they are the best off road running shoes I have ever had. I know a couple of serious fell runners who rave about inov8s too.

I did the Welsh 3000( walking) in them no problems.

I have also started to use mine as something to change into after a long climb where theres a longish walk off as they are so light to carry up yet great on the mixed terrain you tend to encounter on the way down.

I have heard of build problems with inovates but that seames to be a year or so back and mine are fine and I have given them a real hammering. Maybe they did have a probem and its now sorted.

I've not had a happy Inov8 experience with my Terrocs. I love them for the fit, but after only about 150 miles of use, I've got a hole appeared on the inside of each heel.

It doesn't feel like my foot's moving when I'm wearing them, and I've had no associated rubbing on my heel, so I've no idea how it's happened. But, very disappointing after so little use.

I just this afternoon swapped out my Terrocs after I found the outer layer on the sole coming away. I'm putting it down to an idea that the shop had a dodgey batch from a year or so ago when the Terrocs appeared to go through a manufacturing bad patch.
What I love about them is... well you just don't have all that weight! Whenever we're travelling we can just pop them in the luggage and we're cool for any ad hoc walking when we get there. I love it - we were scrambling around the coast of Northern Ireland just the other w/e; with walking boots it is a real weight consideration. My Montane featherlight smock helps too, of course.

Interesting to find out that the 315's have a revised (orange) sole.My original (silver)315's sole unit fell apart within a week and I decided against replacement and used the credit note from the shop for something else.Whilst they lasted, they were very comfortable!
I now use whatever trainers are on clearance...last year I bought 3 pairs of identical Dunhams @ £25 per pair, and the final pair are almost past their sell by date.I shall need some more light weight trail shoes before the month is out so will check out Inov8 prices.

I have thrown more pairs of running shoes away before they are worn out because they give me little injurys or rub or give me discomfort after an hour.

Inov8s just dont do that, they are the only ones that have never given me problems.

It does seam from here that there have been some build quality issues but I hope these will get sorted cos mine are fine and the shoe its self I cant fault.

Everyones feet are different so they wont suit every one.

Unfortunately the 315s are just too narrow for me.  I'm hoping to get either the 320s or 305s, which are wider.  Or perhaps the 295s, which are wider still.

I wear my 318's  for general wear as well as when walking, really comfy and a bit of flexibility seems to help my plantar fasciitis ( I chickened out of the steroid injections in the bottom of my feet last week, so I need comfy shoes )
