It's much easier to display vast amounts of butt crack if you've no underpants to obscure the view - bring on the building site bottom.

I would give it a go if the prize were a sleeping bag But folk entering a photographic competition are hardly likely to need 'a small camera' after all they have a camera to take the image on in the first place. Alpkit, nice people. But if they came around to my dark room playing in my stop bath for 6 and a half minutes I would have to say. Oi! Alpkit - NO! You may be a great purveyor of sleeping bags and quality budget outdoor kit in general, but David Bailey you aint!!! Now push off. Well thats what I would say anyway

Michael has a point, Alpkit do seem to be pretty ethical and probably/possibly have no intentions for the images other than a bit of self promotion through the competition. Also, I was 'steaming about an unrelated photography event earlier so probably blew my top a little. Oh, almost forgot, the lawn/jungle needs mowing too

Did I miss an event?

Just an issue regarding harassment towards a photographer (Namely ME) in a public place today. Not really an OM issue though.

According to Michael who is our new men's underwear guru
So, Michael, was Paxo right about the declining quality of M&S men's undies?
|
 |
Oooooo that used to happen to me a lot. Particularly outside court houses and on peoples doorsteps edited to add: in answer to Richard.

This instance involved an overly aggressive shop worker who was 'Bang out of Order' For want of a better phrase!

I'm still at an age where my underwear comes from places other than M&S, so I'll have to reserve judgement

hmmm so you guys not seen the new coffee table book in the shops yet :-/
only joking
Maybe we should have alluded to all the territory rights and length of time, usage etc, to put peoples minds at rest. But we thought it'd just be nice to give someone a chance to win a nice little compact by sending us a snap, describing their experience and seeing it up on-line and assumed, maybe wrongly, that anyone entering would be happy for us to do that without thinking we were going to start a whole new advertising campaign off the back of it.
I guess we are guilty of thinking there are already enough rules, regulations, terms and conditions in our lives without having to get a legal boffin involved.
I can understand why people would be wary but our comps are unashamedly targeted at our faithful customers and I would like to think that the level of trust we have developed with them would surpass any terms and conditions we could create for something that is supposed to be no more than a bit of fun. Speaking personally I would be delighted to see one of these customers win the prize rather than someone who has come to the comp from a website farming competition links, unfortunately that cannot be guaranteed.
There are certainly no plans to splash the photos through our site, pass them on to Olympus or take a full page ad in the Times. While we appreciate people letting us display their images for the comp, it in no way effects their copyright status. As I was always taught in art school; copyright will always lie with the author unless an agreement has been arranged stating otherwise.
We have had some entries, as I post they have a 1/30 chance of wining a £200 camera. Maybe we would have attracted more entries if we had a page of T&Cs, but it doesn't really matter. As the entries have come in I have personally recognised most of the names of the people who have entered and that feels pretty magical.

You can't win, can you Nick? Put up detailed T&Cs and we complain. Don't put up any T&Cs and we complain...

Thanks for the clarifications there, Nick!

Hi CP True enough! I guess we still have a lot to learn. Cheers Nick

As I suspected - a harmless bit of fun. I don't think anybody really suspected anything else of Alpkit. However, I'm sure you appreciate that there are an awful lot of photography competitions out there that are basically a front for effectively stealing images (I'm looking at the BBC right now), so i can understand why some would be wary. But I think your post clarifies it all - so get entering people!!!

Do you mean the Countryfile calendar competition perhaps there then maybe, Michael?

Soz for the delay replying... Countryfile, yes, but not specifically - the entire BBC is one to avoid really, when it comes to submitting photos/vidoes/etc.
