Arnside & Silverdale AONB - Walk & Pics

15th May 2008

I don't suppose that many on here have even heard of this delightful corner of NW England but for those who enjoy a more "gentler" walking it offers many delights. It is also virtually on my doorstep being only a 20 minute drive away. My walk from the village of Silverdale took me along a variety of field paths, bridleways and even the beach to Arnside. From there I walked up Arnside Knott a lovely viewpoint overlooking the Kent estuary. It offers, on a less hazy day fantastic views to all quarters. From there I made my way over Heathwaite to return to Silverdale.

Dist:  7.75 miles        Ascent:    881 feet        Time: 3h 30m

If anybody can identify the Orchids .....please let me know so I can correct if necessary.  The pictures for the walk are now available for those wishing to view.

Regards,

Dave

i did the walk at Arnside last week and was disgusted at what i saw.someone had camped in one of the rocky inlets and left the remains of their tent alongside the burnt out campfire numerous empty lager cans and a number of plastic bags.this is the first time I've seen environmental vandalism in such a lovely area.

Sssssh! Don't tell everyone!

It is a very beautiful area for walking. I 'discovered' it last year whilst on holiday, and now living in Ulverston I'm fortunate to be able to head over on the train in twenty or so minutes.  There's a small garden centre just outside of Silverdale with a fab cafe that sells the most gorgeous homemade cakes (massive portions!), well worth a visit!

There's been problems over the years with beach parties. I don't begrudge the youngsters there fun just wish they would tidy up after themselves.

There is also a good cafe at the Waterslack Garden Centre near Eaves Wood.
