Any ideas on summer bags - not too pricey! - Light weight
- Down or synthetic
- very small pack size
- summer rating with a tad of latitude
I sleep cold so I could do with a bit of ummmph - but I am thinking of something lighter than my Rab quantum endurance 400 which is around 900g (approx I cant remember exactly) and packs as small if not smaller. . Ideas and suggestions gratefully received . edited to add: suggestions related to products only please - not what I can do with them!

How much do you want to spend fb? If you like your Rab Q400, you can get the 630g/0C Rab Q250 for around £150.

That sounds good Mike. Are there any synthetic lightweight equivalents that can take a bit of punishment do you think? Primaloft perhaps?

 Macpac Escapade 150?

Synthetic bags have a short lifespan fb. They lose a lot of loft quite quickly compared to down bags. I've got an old down bag that must be about 20 years old. It still does the job. Saying that, i've got a cheap synthetic Wynnster Superlite 600 bag that weighs about 700g and it does me for warm summer nights in a bivvy-bag.

Here's a thread about the Tesco bag. Once you get past the uninformed "it can't be any good at that price" comments it comes out as pretty good (at that price). 800 gms, inc 225gms 90%down. Link

After drinking most of a bottle of whisky, i've often woke up in the morning, lying on the grass next to my tent. So if the weather is nice, save yourself the weight of a tent, mat and sleeping bag, and just get pished. You must practice drinking, to work out the amount needed to cancel out the tent, bag and sleeping bag combo.

Anything Primaloft??? Well, I won one of these on ptc*'s blog a few weeks ago Big Agnes Lost Dog 50 I haven't used it yet, although I plan to give it a go next weekend on a campsite. But, having used down bags all my backpacking life, I'm struggling with the idea.... - it's a top-bag, so it only really works with a full length mat, which I tend not to use in summer - it's only rated to +10C - it packs pretty small but no better than many full down bags - it weighs 567g (accurate manufacturer's weight according to my scales ) which is more than any of my down bags rated down to 0. So based on that I expect you'll struggle to get a synthetic that'll fit your requirements. I've had no word yet on a PHD summer sale but if there is one in July or August I'd be tempted to see if a Minimus, Minim 300, or (unlikely) the new Minim Ultra is available in it....

I echo Matt on the PHD stuff, their bags are seriously light and currently there is a cheap micro bag on sale.... not bad

I was going to link to the PHD Micro on special offer but Imperial Dave got there already! For that price, I think it looks good value and seems to suit your spec. John
