does anyone have any experience with either the karrimor down jacket or karrimor goose down jacket (yup there 2 different products) from field and trek?

the down jacket just says its a jacket. with down in it.

but the goose down one elaborates a bit more, apparantly it is 90/10 600+ fill goosedown and has a removable hood. sounds very much like the alpkit filo.

usually the jackets are £99 and £139 respectively, but currently down to £35 and £50, which seams like an absolute steal!! unsure though because as far as i know karrimor clothing basically = field and trek own brand and ive heard bad stories about karrimor since they were bought out...

The official Karrimor website is www.karrimor.com and it lists all the karrimor products available generally through the outdoor trade say shops such as Blacks and Millets or other "independant" outdoor retailers like ultralightoutdoor gear.  The website only has Rucksacks and Boots featured on it so as a general rule if its not on the Karrimor website its old stock or "own label" only available through Field and Trek or SportsDirect shops or websites.  This "own label" applies to all the clothing lines and also some of the footwear and Rucksacks.  Some people seem to think that all Karrimor stuff these days is inferior quality, at least in comparison with the products produced prior to Mike Ashley buying the Company circa 7 years ago.  However I have some of the "own label" products and have found them to be of reasonable quality.

I have no experence of the Down jackets you mention but would say that in common with any Karrimor "own brand" product take the RRP with a very large pinch of salt just concentrate on whether you think the actual sale price is good value for money.

'Tis very unfortunate all this Karrimoor confusion - I've had a pair of KSB boots for years and they are like slippers (as in comfort not adhesion)

well the sale price does seem pretty good value for money, the next cheapest down jacket ive seen is the alpkit filo at £80.

quality wise it looks pretty good, unless their lying about the down fill power or something. but i just don't wanna get something if its going to fall to pieces, which can be hard to determine sometimes.

also not really sure about the difference between the 2 jackets, except ones cheaper and doesnt have any specs. i presume its worse quality down.

has anyone bought anything from karrimor in the last 7 years and how does it hold up?

I got one as an early Christmas present, and all I can say is that I haven't as much as shivered in the midst of a freezing blizzard.

Very comfy warm coat but light weight. The hood is fully insulated with an integral glare visor rather than just a rain hood, as a lot of other jackets have. The pockets are insulated on the front, so keep your hands warm if you're gloveless.

It's much lighter than many less well insulated coats, including others I own.

I'm more than happy with it, and recent weather has really put it to the test.

Totally agree with the above. I've bought trail running shoes, sleeping mats (self inflate, Karrimor and Karrimor X-Lite) soft shell type gloves. Trail shoes are fine, gloves reasonable, the sleeping mats especially the X-Lite ones are top notch, looked like they were made by the same company that makes Multimat mats, definately the same fabric and valve and very close to the weight of TMR Prolite self inflate mats at half the price.

Lots of other stuff I've looked at and thought no way. At the price of the jacket I'd give it a shot, if it doesn't look or feel right send it back, that's the best way as you'll get lots of advice from people who 'heard' this and that.

Further to my Previous post visited my local Sports Direct today and bought a pair of long "ski socks" for £4.99.  They are loopstich with a fibre content of 22% Merino Wool/23% Wool/30% Nylon/213 Acrylic/2% Elastane.  At the price they seem good value.

I got a Karrimor down jacket a few weeks ago for £25. Have only worn it round the house (saves having the heating on) and for shopping. Supposed to be £99.99, but I'd never pay that for it. It's very simple - no inside pockets, crap hood.

However, it does keep me warm and I've since bought one for my partner, for her to wear for the drive to work and general knocking around. Hers was 50 quid - rrp 120.

God knows where they get the rrps from, but at the 'sale' prices you can't go wrong for general wear.

Saw these the other day and thought they looked OK, though the material is really heavy compared to most down jackets.

Was in my local field and trek and noticed that the karrimor jackets price were lowered again, however if you looked at the jacket the down was leaking badly and as the jackets were black, it looked like if you were the wearer you had severe dandruff!

Even the same items are hit and miss. The tshirts are pretty good though. I have 2 identical pairs of the super thick merino socks. One pair is spot on while the other pair shrunk so badly that they make feet hurt in moments so they went to the bin. Not bad for £5 but very hit and miss.

Karrimor jackets on sale today for £29 on the website for today only. I bought my 3 girls Sprayway down jackets for £32 and £38 and they seem to leak feathers too. I have a ME Dri lite jacket but considering whether to get a Karrimor one as a cheap second alternative for winter

I just got the jacket for £29.99 on their website and it was delivered in good time, the jacket is resonable quality a good fit but I can see issues with the leakage as the down is starting to come from the seems and the outer shell itself, it's no major issue as most down jackets leak, I will give an update on here when I've tried it out more, I'm heading to the Highlands over the easter break camping over 800m so it will be intereting how warm they actually are. To be honest though for that price you can't go wrong.
