hi there i was looking at the new airbeds the one that caught my eye was the exped syn-mat ultra lite 7 ,470 grams in weight Which does look great , but i already have a POE EITHER THERMO THERMO 6 which i bought from amazon.co.uk for £31.99 brand new and i think it is great but it is 595grams .So the difference is about 125grams in weight. i would like to know what your opinion is on this and if so what other air beds you rate

I used to have a POE Ether Thermo Thingie and I sold it on when I bought a NeoAir. Had the NeoAir not been such a comfortable saving of weight, I'd have kept hold of the POE. I haven't used the Synmat but I do have a Downmat and like the NeoAir, it's a really comfortable design, perhaps a tad more comfy than the POE was. So, in my book, NeoAir trumps POE on comfort as well as weight, but is much more expensive. I sold the POE on here very easily (I do try to price my stuff competitively!), so I guess one key thing is how much are you prepared to pay for a 125g loss?

I have the exped synmat ul (-medium as I'm a short arse).
I found after a couple of times inflating it directly by mouth, that there were drops of moisture visible on the insides of the mat (its slightly seethru on the yellow side). I now use the exped pillow pump to inflate which is actually easier and very quick. This ups the weight of the set up but gives me a good pillow too. The comfort level is good, the R rating is higher, and the price is lower than the neoair.
All factors you need to consider.

I like both POE and Exped mats and find them both to be comfortable. As MK says the Exped is slightly more comfy than the POE for me but there is not much in it I didnt like the Neoair, for me it was too crinkly and not as comfy but loads of other people rate it highly

If you're looking at weight the Italian company Camp have one at 350g which costs EURO 60. I think this company are well known for ice axes and climbing equipment in the UK but not the other gear. They also make lightweight tents, sleeping bags etc. and are quite well thought of in Europe.

Just bought the camp mat - full length and actually only 315g, and packed size is half that of a 3/4 length thermorest.
How do these camp mats score on insulation?
Anyone got a link for the Camp mat?
I've found them just search on www.camp.it But no info on insulation values.

Cheers, this has piqued my interest, gonna do some digging

i like the look of the exped synmat ul 7 as well but as its 75 pound at the cheapest and my poe either thermo 6 cost me 31.99 on amazon and it is warm and comforable , i know that it is 595grams but the important thing is i got a nights sleep of sorts.

What about the POE Peak Elite? I go one of these instead of the Exped UL 7 (it wasn't available yet when I was buying) and it seems good. It's very light and supposedly just as warm as the Thermo.

i have been told buy an online shop that they will not be selling anymore Peak Elite AC until poe have fixed the leaks and or improved the manufacturing process. As they have had a high percentage the peak elite returned due to faults .leaking air through the sides etc

That's worrying, I'll keep an eye on mine!
I'm not saying that there all crap i really like the mat as well but when i telephoned the shop that is what they told me all so that they had a higher than average number of them returned due to faults, so until poe fix the problem its a no go

well after buying the vaude norrsken mat i bought the exped synmat 7 UL both are great. but i really like the warmth and softness of the exped synmat 7. i have been told by vaude the temperature rating of the norsken mat is -17 or -19 so it should be a great mat for winter plus the denier of the vade mat is a little thicker i think its 20denier on the top 70 on the bottom.the exped is 20 denier top and bottom
