Hi to all,

I'm organising a walk from Sheffield cathedral to Manchester cathedral across the peak district in a couple of months, and after browsing the site for a while decided to join and try to gain any knowledge from you all!

I can't decide on the route yet as I'm trying to maximise time in the peaks but still keep good pace, but this yields a problem. There seem to be a fair few campsites just south of Ladybower reservoir, but I'd like to head north to Howden reservoir before heading west to Manchester and there don't seem to be any campsites in between.

Which brings me to wild camping, would the area be suitable between Howden and Woodhead reservoirs? Any feedback is very much welcome!

Thanks,
Adam

No idea about the route I'm afraid, but it sounds like a great walk - however it might be helpful if you give an indication of the numbers you are anticipating as wild camping tends to be a discrete activity and if there are 30 of you, you would be very noticable...

I'm hoping it will be! Unfortunately there could be 10-12 of us, which is undesirable. Even by doubling/tripling up in tents there'd still be 4-6 of them.

I was hoping to head to a campsite as a first stop then wild camp only if necessary, although I'd love to. Trying to keep environmental impact to a minimum with 12 people I'd imagine being tricky.

If it has to be between those places, then you'll have to wild camp. On the other hand, if you're prepared to walk to Woodhead Reservoir, there's a little campsite at Crowden.

That's what we would be heading towards, I'm just not sure if our group would make it in a day!

Nice idea. Why not take a more southerly route, via the Hope Valley and Hayfield. There's a good choice of campsites, and it's a days walk from Hayfield (good site) to Manchester. You could do it it two long days, or three more leisurely days.
