Corran Ferry
or as Highland Council call it the Nether Lochaber to Ardgour Ferry

There was recently a post mentioning that the Corran Ferry (south of Fort William across to Ardgour) was expensive. I had occasion to use it this past weekend and found that the price had risen by £1 so it is now £6.20 each way. However foot passengers and bicycles remain free.
Shame its probably cheaper now to drive all the way round instead! Pretty much like all public transport. Still I love going across there!

£6.20 return! Look what we have to pay!

There hadn't been a fare increase for yonks, to the extent that - I am led to believe - it would have lost significant amounts of money without the £1 rise.

Cheaper to drive around? Probably not.

It's 46 miles around Lochs Linnhe and Eil. Assuming a modest running cost of  35p a mile (for a car  costing less than £10K doing 10,000 miles a year) = £16.10...

...a saving of almost a tenner.

And then there is the time saved, which can also be costed.

Ben - £12.40 return.

Having missed the last ferry home and had to drive, I can say that I'd rather pay the £6.20!

Ah yes, £12.40 it is, that'll teach me to scan rather than read properly.
My car does 35 miles to the gallon, which at 46 miles and petrol costing £1.20 a litre comes out at £6.97 in fuel.
