.jpg) Just downloaded the latest internet explorer 8 beta version, perhaps a silly move as I have an old pc that probably struggles to run it (I am on Xp and have 768mb worth of ram). However, when I open it it seems to crash ie most times. I can't seem to uninstall or rollback to IE 7 and system restore doesn't work either. It is more stable using the IE7 emulate feature. I'm not that crazy about firefox or safari either. Any ideas?

There's a tape in IE8 Paul. You have to set it to 164 cms.

Any way, what's with the cm's - whatever happened to working in millimetres (ocd moment)

Just had a look at it. More stuff pinched from Apple. What a surprise. Never done that before. Paul - note that IE 8 requires XP SP2 to run. If you're just using bog-standard (and I choose my words carefully!) XP that might explain things.

Oh well Paul, if you're going to take CB's advice rather than mine ..........
|

.jpg) Bog-standard's ok on this thread Bill - I have SP2. I have tried installing it again too.

Fair enough. I gave you a chance, so don't blame me when your pc falls over whenever the wind blows a bit hard. What's the weather been like since you installed IE8?

Done that - problem is I can't get rid of it, no way to uninstall and my system restore seems to have packed up.

.jpg) You might not care....but Firefox 3 is out; and a considerable improvement on the previous incarnations Cheers ed. I did have a previous version installed, I will try it though. Just so long as its not a beta version.
Beta versions do not go well with 6year old pcs.

You might not care....but Firefox 3 is out; and a considerable improvement on the previous incarnations There may be a few improvements but surely I'm not the only one who's irritated by not being able to resize the miniscule little window where you chose where to save a bookmark? A big step backwards there IMHO. Having said that, it's still my browser of choice despite its still well deserved reputation as a "skinnable memory heap testing tool"!

Craig - I do not use the Bookmarks feature...rather I tend to use Linkstash which is the best bookmark organiser I have come across. It is downloadable in a trial version. Not sure about the yellow roof on the home button though

Opera is also worth a look. Current version is better than Firefox IMO
