I wanna get out for an overnighter tomorow, was thinking of heading up the Cobbler (Ben Arthur)then down the back and over Beinn Ime then wilcamping somewhere on Ben Vane. I'd head back along the track through the trees the next morning. I'm checking the weather reports and none are saying the same thing . Worryingly Mwis says thundry rain/thunderstorms . Should I go out or would it be silly? I'm fed up not getting out to play this year

 Go!

 weather? what's that? jfdi!

So, you go and have a great time or you go and get struck by lightning or you don't go and wish that you had. Only the last one of those leaves you fretting!

 |
LOL, I like that logic Matt.

not wishing to open a hornets nest but I often find MWIS extremely innacurate at times. I'd go with Metcheck
|
 |
not to say extremely lugubrious most of the times...

Wish I could get out into the Arrochar Alps, the first real mountains I ever climbed courtesy of the RN and RM. I climbed them and roamed around there many times more during my 5 year stint based in Faslane and Rosyth. They have a special place in my memories, I lugged my firstborn up The Cobbler on my back when he was barely 6 months old and he's never stopped hillwalking and climbing since. Go on! Do it and spare a thought for envious me.

I think I'm gonna just go for it, rain I can deal with but its lightning that scares me (if I get zapped though its all your faults ) I'll just go with MET check Glynn as it says fair and the worst it gets is partly cloudy! TBH though I had thought MWIS wouldve been the more accurate one (the reason for this thread) due it having "mountain" in its name. Offroad Shoe I'll spare a thought over a wee dram or two , hope you get out soon.

Well thank's all, I went and had a great day's walking. I had a late start and by the time I got parked and set off it was about 11am with the sun blazing (got a little burnt behind the ears). Ben Arthur(The Cobbler) was pretty busy so I only hung around the summit long enough for a few photies and a very quick bite to eat. came down the back (easy path) and went for Beinn Ime where I had the summit to myself and it was stunning! I really need to learn how to take proper photies . On the descent from Beinn Ime to Lag Uaine I was greeted to 2 very friendly sheep dogs tearing up the hill for a clap. I soon met up with the shepherd and had a quick blether before heading on up the back side of Ben Vane where I decided I'd had enough for the day and would grab the summit in the morning. I pitched up at NN 2744 1049 to get out of the winds which were begining to pick up (gusting at about 45mph). By the time I had dinner on the cloud was dropping and coming in and by the time I had eaten I was watching the mists go swirling by the tent door. I went and got some water and had a few wee drams while reading my book before nodding off. I awoke still in the cloud which made everything damp and grey. I was a little cold in the night but my old synthetic bag is well past its best and the cloud wouldnt have helped. A quick brekkie then cleaned my teeth while watching a Hare in the fog that hadnt noticed me (he was gone by the time I dug the camera oot ). Due to the clag that didnt seem to be improving I decided to skip the Beinn Ime's summit and save it for a nicer day. I quickly dropped off the hill and wandered along the landrover track back to succoth and the car which I then took round to the campsite at Beinnglas to meet my pal and get quietly drunk in the Drovers Thank you all for convincing me to go. I used my unlined running shoes for a change and was pleasantly surprised that wet feet all day wasnt all that bad. Will probably look at getting some sealskinz for camp/pub. I have already ordered an Alpkit PD 400, should get it for the Kinlochleven meet

The Internet is a wondrous thing, as it has many different weather forecast sites so you can surf around until you find one you like. So... if you really fancy going out, look for a good forecast and you can justify going out if you could actually do with a day off, look for a bad forecast and you can justify staying in. You won't be sure what the weather will do, but it means you'll get to do what you really wanted, whatever the weather does... Pete.

Glad you had a great time BBF. Just think if you had stayed at home.....

.jpg) Great stuff BBF,Always good to get away and forget for a while .. Does the MET OFFICE not provide every weather station with whats happening???? surely there must be one super site that the country as a whole uses for sea/air/land etc,and yes i know these are all differant types but weather good or bad must mean pretty much the same for them all?????? And they do a mountain forcast too.

 |
Diddy, "Does the MET OFFICE not provide every weather station with whats happening????" Well, if they do then something gets "lost in translation" because they can differ quite markedly at times. Or, is it that the general weather for an area can differ vastly from specific locations within that area?

MWIS is great if you want to print off it's pdf and hang it in your front window and pretend you're a gear shop in Ambleside/Keswick/Betws

Yeah it was fun, glad I got out before having to go back onto nightshift. I'm looking forward to Kate's Kinlochleven meet now. I hink for me the weather tallied with METCHECK's during the day and then the MET OFFICE/BBC during the night. MWIS was completely wrong.
