 I read that after a sweaty day in the hills if you are wearing a merino wool base layer it doesnt stink. I can confirm this to be true,i picked up one cheap icebreaker merino wool T shirt in a sale to test it out & its brilliant. I walked up Caw Fell,Haycock & Iron crag above Ennerdale on a warm Humid day with regular heavy showers,mostly wearing it under a paclite & it performed superbly,no more being smelly in the pub afterwards & even better on a 2 dayer when you want to travel light & dont want to carry too much clothing. Good wicking & warm too. I can Recommend Merino wool as a base layer.

 Yeah, merino is the dogs. My 'record' Ades, is 9 days walking, and a days travel either side. Still no pong!

 My big test when I first turned to Merino was playing five a side in it, I was absolutely atounded when I got home and it did not smell at all. They do rock! The only myth I would say I don't agree with is that Merino dries quickly as it certainly doesn't, although it stays warm even when wet.

 Another fan here, although it does have a mild smell when its wet, not of BO, more of a 'eu de sheep parfume I'd say. And it is easier to soak it then synthetics if your really pushing it.

Socks were by Patagonia. Medium weight Hiking Crew sock - Merino wool mix with nylon/polyester ( Capilene performance.) I shall just have to look out for some of those elsewhere again. Some other socks I'd seen before were Merino wool mixed with Coolmax etc.

10 consequitive days in an Icebreaker 190 LS on the Pennine Way during a sunny May - and it had had enuf after that. Going to try the Trekmates BL cheapo version next time out - it doesn't look as if it will wear as well as the Icebrker.

 I can highly recommend the Woolpower range which includes baselayers, mid layers, socks, hats etc. I used a 200g zip top as a baselayer for a weeks skiing last winter and it kept me warm, wicked brilliantly and didnt smell after 6 days of use. At Field and Trek only the Merell Merino wool tee shirts in fir green or black remain now in the sale, with the long sleeved version having completely sold out! Tee's only still just twelve quid each. Well worth the spend.

Great heavens above, no! They might bite one, might'nt they just! Joggers nipple is bad enough, but Possum nipple just doesn't bear thinking about at all! The pain would surely be too much to bear; just plainly really quite excruciating one would imagine!
