It's not worth going into what happened with last OM group tent, except to say a new one is now available.

I picked up a Vango Diablo 600 at a car boot sale recently for £50, only used once. It's available for any OM meet as a communal tent or spare sleeping space for unexpected guests. The only rules for using it are:

  • You have to collect/return it
  • For OM meets only

There's no rules about drinking/smoking in it, just remember the better you look after it the longer it will last. Collection is from Cheshire, 25 mins off the M6.

Excellent news.

Though which review should we believe?

"It is a monstor to erect. Realisitically you need three people spending an hour." doesn't sound too good after an OM get-together in the pub, or maybe that's when the reviewer pitched!!

Maybe we should have a meet in September and decide for ourselves?

Hey, but don't forget now guys that the ace Who drummer Keith Moon would often famously pitch a tent inside a hotel lobby if there wasn't a room made available for him there; so you could pitch this tent actually inside of the pub in question, saving both a lot of trouble later on erecting it when pished, and valuable drinking time too into the bargain! No problemo, sorted!!

So is DM now officially BWABT?

Mrs C bought one of these a while back as she thought it would be nice to have some (lots of) extra space. It got demolished in a storm on Arran, mended (Blacks sent some replacement poles as they were matchwooded) and eventually sold as it was just too much. Nice when it's up though especially as you have a "lobby" and a sealed living room.

Probably best if you have 3 or 4 people around to put it up. It used to take us half an hour between the two of us.

I've never yet seen one go back in the original bag though!

Used one a while back while on a Residential with students. Plenty room for 2!!! (students were well pi***d off as they had to share a 2 man). My mate put it up alone as I was walking with the students. He did it in 45 mins.

Did he have one hand tied behind his back at the time there, by any chance then Dave?

Nah I don't believe that, not unless he had a 7' pole to hold the middle up while he clipped in.
