I can get cold hands when driving when its not awful cold or when in the house and the temp is below a certain level, I get cold feet also when the rest of me seems ok. I've noticed at times when walking and there's a breeze my hands will go cold and fingers go like sausages with no loose skin on the joints ect, I just put my hands in my pockets to stop it getting worse.

When I did a lot of outside work my fingers would be cold and the folk around me would be fine and not cold at all. The Dr took a blood sample a few years ago and said I didnt have diabetes. If my feet are cold and I go to bed it can be a few hours before they feel warm and there's a woodburning stove yards away from my bed, the rest of me can be warm .

That suggests fluid retention to me, which would suggest a circulation issue (inadequate circulation to drive fluid back to the heart).

Or, if it happens when wearing a rucksack, have a look at how the straps run; they may be affecting your circulation.  Also, simply swinging the arms when walking may tend to encourage fluid to pool at the ends of your arms, especially if your body is reducing circulation to prevent heat loss; I find that I don't realise that my core is getting cold (it would be interesting to plot my core temperature, as I reckon it would vary more than the average person's...), so, by the time my hands and feet have gone numb, it takes quite a while to bring my core back up to temperature, and restore the circulation to my hands and feet.

One other possibility for getting cold is poor thyroid activity (but usually associated with lethargy).  Did your GP do a thyroid test, too?

I'm an engineer, BTW, not a medic...

It happens if I have a rucksack or not ( day bag perhaps ) it seems to be a cold breeze that brings it on, even on a sunny day.

I think he checked for Thyroid when he took blood and it was ok, I only go to the Doc when my foots dropping of though.

I did mention it to the Dr but he didnt say much and that it was normall for some folk ( which didnt help much ), I dont think I swing my arms around a lot when I'm walking ( not as bad as a soldier marching anyway )

Edit, I have noticed ( but didnt think much of it ) that when I was in hot Englandshire some days my watchstrap would be tight on my wrist and others slack enough to turn all the way round , suppose thats the same thing as above.
