I know there are other ways to browse the forum but when I have a spare five minutes, I've always found 'latest posts' a quick and easy way to skim through the threads and spot anything worth opening. Stuff disappears off the first page of latest posts more quickly these days and I think mainly due to the volume of classifieds. Overnight spam attacks get dealt with by removing the posts but the revived threads remain. Actually sometimes it's quite interesting to get a blast from the past by opening up some of these. But that's something else which clogs up the first page. Anyway I'm aware that I can browse using 'forum topic', I use it to hunt out 'trip reports' as they disappear very quickly (from latest posts) and there are some gems which it would be a shame to miss. Two questions - Could folk bump trip reports once they've read them? Not just for lazy folk like me who tend to miss them if they slide down 'latest posts' quickly but also as a way of saying 'thanks for making the effort'. Anyone agree with me that classifieds would be better left out of 'latest posts' if that were possible?

isn't bumping a trip report just clogging latest posts up and pushing something else off the front page? wouldn't setting up a "trip reports" favourite be easier?

'Latest posts' clogged up with trip reports that'll be a fine day

I've asked the tech guys to do just that.

The problem usually solves itself. Just wait an hour and look again!

Thanks Jon I know it's been mentioned before.

yes, agreed, classifieds should be separate. Bumping is annoying, though.

Maybe the 'Latest Posts' page could have a button somewhere labelled 'For Sale or Wanted', that would take folks straight to the OM marketplace. Then again... I probably wouldn't look at it... and I do admit to having snapped up the occasional bit of kit that I'd never have seen if it wasn't on 'Latest Posts'.

> I've asked the tech guys to do just that I like seeing classifieds in 'Latest Posts'... I don't bother reading trip reports... Occasional flurries of spam are annoying, but they're occasional. And I don't find that there are that many classifieds. UKC allows each user to configure what they see in 'Forums Latest'. That's the best solution...

When I just counted, 14 out of 40 threads on latest posts were classifieds. It seems a bit unbalanced to me but I accept that some folk have got used to them being included and like to see them there. The UKC system does sound good, captain p, I'd bake the tech guys a cake if they could manage that.

I also would prefer to see Classifieds included in the Latest Posts.

everybody loves a bargain and personally i dont have a problem with the current set up, if i dont want to read a post i just skip past it till i find one i want to look at.

I've asked the tech guys to do just that. maybe you could ask them (the 'tech guys') if they could make OM work properly (quotes etc) in Chrome?

You're right Dids, it's not a big problem, I can browse the forum in different ways to find what I'm interested in. If 'latest posts' doesn't do the job I want it to, I can work around it. Repeating myself a bit, but - I think of 'latest posts' as reflecting what's current, a way of seeing what folk are posting at any particular time, what's new, what's getting attention. The nature of 'latest posts' means that what is of greatest interest tends to pop back up to the top so more folk read it and potentialy join in. Having stuff for sale included means that sometimes a third of latest posts are 'classfieds' and include all the messages about 'what colour/size?', 'item sold', 'package arrived', 'pm sent'. It doesn't quite fit for me, but that's me and it's probably because I still see the forum as a place primarily for discussion and advice, sharing information and opinions. To me, classifieds are a a bit of an add on. I'm happy to see classifieds with its own section, see it thrive and be well used and I guess if it's removed from latest posts it could be seen as a backwards step by those that like spotting the 'for sales' and find it more useful and interesting than me - fair enough. So, let classifieds stay in latest posts if that's what folk want. There were only six when I counted earlier which seems a much better balance. I wonder if that's anything to do with it being a free listing weekend on ebay?
