>Good quality crystal won't get scratched
I scratched the face of my GMT Master ii and was told when I took it to be repaired that the operative word was "RESISTANT" not "Proof". Well, that or Rolex are using sub-standard glass?

EDIT: and before you ask it was an 18th Birthday present.

Maybe because Rolex are a fashion brand, they don't use performance materials? I think most Rolex wearers couldn't care less, as long as it is blingy enough with plenty of gold.

According to the Tag website, only a diamond will scratch their sapphire glass. Mine has been worn daily for over 15 years and is unmarked.

I make no comment on Rolex being a fashion brand as I no longer wear it and in truth wouldn't buy one now but it has as you'd expect a huge amount of sentimental value to me.... its a product of its time.

Anyway a quick skim of the interweb shows that although sapphire glass is very scratch resistant it isn't scratch proof which I'm sure that Tag would be screaming from the roof tops IF the case was that ONLY a diamond or harder substance would scratch it. Its also interesting to note that Tag say its watches are waterPROOF to X meters not waterRESISTANT to X meters so it obviously knows the difference between the 2 words.

From Tags own website on the subject....

"Its hardness of 9 Mohs makes it EXTREMELY scratch-RESISTANT and strong" [My capitalisation.]

I totally agree that in normal usage that it wouldn't be likely to get scratched but that doesn't make it's scratch proof.

Anyway.....

Copied from the Tag website. Obviously they can't call it scratchPROOF, as a diamond can scratch it.

If you are familiar with the mohs scale it would take unusual usage to scratch the glass. In normal usage it is scratchproof.

Worth bearing in mind when buying a watch is if your intending to wear it to work or not. Wearing a nice suit and say a G-shock type watch isn't a good look.

So everyone wears a suit to work?

I wear the rough and tough watch to work and the cheap Casio for hiking.
