Bah - still no snow here!!! Too far East I reckon Anyway, cross country season started for me on Sat with the East district Champs. I was poor... och well. It was a lovely mix of brick hard stubble fields and sticky, muddy, planted fields. Nice. A very 'traditional' course and very hard work

The Dark & White went quite well, I can't remember the last time I ran so much! 25 km in 3 1/4 hours is a lot more than we usually do - and still only finished 3rd in the mixed pairs class (that's 3 out of 8 so not as impressive as it might sound!). Unfortunately the one pair we needed to beat to win the league came 2nd

'Chrsitmas'? Jon just stay clear of Santa's glass of sherry ! Anita are you sure you're not out on one of those oil rigs ? I thought all of Scotland had had snow...........could lend you some from sunny Cumbria? Sounds a good test Toreador, was the time limit 3 hours or had I got that wrong? 3 out of 8 is good anyway - top half of the field - if others choose not turn up thats their look out. I presume that you were snow free for the day. I think I've become soft, got in from work, walked the dogs - thinking how cold its getting - got back in, lit the fire, had a mug of tea and fell asleep. Or is that old age sneaking up? I'll run tomorrow, promise!!

It was increased to 3 hours 15 mins as they had to change event centre at the last minute and that involved a longer run in/out to the main area. Yes, entirely snow free, I was surprised as there was so much in the Dales that we assumed there'd be at least something in the Peak. Very frosty in the valleys though, and stayed so all day out of the sun.

Oh come all ye faithfull, joyful and...........................blast! Wrong thread. However, whilst I'm here, I'm all geared up for the worst run of the year - the annual Christmas club handicap cross country - even though its normally good fun. Preparation is different, no running for best part of two weeks, apart from this morning as a punishment run for eating and drinking too much last night (and possibly the previous few nights). The run is tomorrow and my youngest daughter has decided that she is going to beat me, the pressure is on as she hasn't quite managed to beat me yet. Should I retire first? Better not as the outlaws are staying and are also coming to watch. Anyone else running?

Pre-Christmas orienteering run tomorrow, then that's it for a while - off to the Highlands for 9 days from Boxing Day, but unless the weather craps out we'll be mostly walking and/or climbing. Though we may do a run round the Munros near Corrour station, just to make sure we get back in time for the afternoon train!

Following a very slack few weeks due to assorted 'lurgies', I got out for 31/4 hour run yesterday over Pumlumon area. Made me grunt a bit, especially the climbs . But feeling better for it and great to have the lungs working properly again. 3 hour walk today with a rucksac full of lead weights, bags of rice and water bottles - me back hurts! Moley.

christmas morning run has been shelved as somehow had to fit in geting home and to bed at about 1.30 after mass sleep opening presents picking up nan and being at church by 10 as on door, happily got a walk boxing day afternoon and may run or cycle in morn depending on what toys i have to play with
1.20 walk, changed into shorts and just finished a 30 minute blast on the hills - didn't see a sole. Now to start eating and drinking with a clear conscience . Moley.

Mmmm........... 9 days in the Highlands, I'm not jealous ...........oh well just a bit then! Lead weights & rice Moley? Are you sure it wasn't the turkey and spuds back from the shops . I sort of did the reverse of you yesterday, 1 hour walk with family then 2 hours of floundering through deep heather and bog trying to catch the beagles - got them and found that burning sceaming muscle thing going on when I got my breath back. then had dinner and struggled to stand up afterwards. Volume of food and refreshments consumed may have had a hand in my struggle. Jon hope you put nan back down before running and cycling.................. speaking of which, I must confess to riding a mountain bike today instead of running, first taste of one of those purpose built forest tracks, and I have to admit it was good fun. My pace obviously impressed those behind me....."like being stuck behind a caravan - yeah but why the**** is it being towed by a tractor (peels of laughter from all others in the convoy)"..... I got off and took a bow, embarrassed by having such an appreciative audience. Funny how they all raced off into the distance when I let them past. Think I might run tomorrow.

Yesterday was 21/2 hr hard walk again Plynlimmon area, carrying the rucksac full to 30lbs. Hard 60minute run today, pub dancing tonight

8 days in the Highlands, and 8 days on the hill - we kept waiting for a break in the weather so we could have a rest day, but it never happened! The nearest I got to running was wearing my fell shoes for walking on a couple of days, as I'd worn some nice holes in my heels the day before by wearing my stiff winter boots for most of a big 22 miler!
Did a bit of running down in Dorset over Christmas then was skiing in Austria for a week (no running for a week!). Back to it last night though So, running highlights of 2008?????? For me the Slioch race - glorious day, magical views, freedom as you ran along the summit ridge between. Fabtastic that's what it's all about Comedy moment - orienteering, winning the W21L Scottish champs race (who me?) - footnote: there was an 'elite' category above me where all the good people were.
