Hi Sorry to come on here with all my ignorance but I'm looking for a lightweight tent to go camping in Greece and am desperate for some advice. I'm going alone so want something small and light.
I've done some research and these are the ones that look appealling:
Coleman Adrenaline III - £62.00 Vango Tempest 200 - £74.99 Vango Spectre 200 - £67.99 The Coleman one ways less than 1kg. This seems great but a little too good to be true. I'm on a tight budget so would rather something closer to £60. However, I'd really value other's opinions and experiences and would buy the Vango Tempest if it came with good recommendations. Thanks very much. Soph

Soph the coleman adrenaline 3 is 4.9kg Argos have a 1 man tent on sale for £33, it is a remake of the tiger paws tent which has great reviews on this site and was awarded a recomended in TGO (I have one of the original ones, and can confirm its not a bad tent and weighs 1.9kg) I am yet to read a review for the new version but it looks very much like the old one. the advantage of this type of tent for warm climates is the inner can be pitched alone which is mainly mesh (not so good in winter) this means you can keep the bugs out without baking.

Hi Anthony Thanks for your response. I think I meant the Coleman Rigel tent, which is 960g. I'll check out the Argos one, though. If you just pitch the inner, does it make it see through? Thanks again. Soph

I've camped in a tent in Greece in summer. You do not want to spend a night in a sweatbox! The choice of tent depends on where you will be sleeping. If on a campsite, you'll probably want some privacy. If wild camping, then that's different. Being older and wiser than the last time, i would choose a stand-alone bug-net/bivvy and tarp if i did it again. You 'hopefully' never need to use the tarp. If you want a 'normal' tent, look for one with a mostly mesh inner, and plenty of vents on the fly-sheet.

The coleman is probably single skin which is ok but you should be aware of the increased likelyhood of condensation. Of the three I would go for the tempest as it is of a design that is well proven though I have not tried one myself. You may be able to get a good proice on a vango 'spirit' if you shop around which is a better tent. Good luck

i too would go with the tempest out of the 3.have owned and used mine in bad windy weather and it was great. the spirit which cb is reccomending is a better tent so i would go with that if you are on your own.

yes dave.i am ready for winter and all has been replaced.got a more expensive but lighter sleeping bag(cumulus)in the end.new pillow and prolite 4 mat.i won a small amount of cash at work which helped. i have ordered some more lineloks from team io as backup, but will be trying the taut line hitch on the guylines first.i can hang off this knot with 2 mil dyneema line without it budging.oh yes,and i won't be taking my rucksack out of the tent unless i am in it.i think lack of weight in the tent did not help.look forward to testing it in stupid winds again! yes i have the stupid gene but in my defense, rock climbing scares me but bad weather gives me a buzz. sorry to hijack the thread.

nice to hear you are back to rocking and rolling with new kit.......... b.o.t. though I personally love the vango tents and although I dont have the spirit 100 I did have a spirit 300 and also currently have a helium 100 the helium 100 is small but is 4 season capable and light and you can get it for around 130

Thanks for all your advice. I can't afford the Vango Spirit (I want a 2 man tent for future non-solo trips), so think I might go for the Tempest. The Banshee looks very flappy - not a camping technical word, I'm sure but it just looks from the pictures like it can't be made nice and taut. I'd imagine a lot of flapping in the wind.
I can't see the Tiger Paws tents that someone mentioned. Maybe it's discontinued. My only other option was a Quechua tent from Decathlon. Superlight and around the same price as the Vango... Was fascinating to hear about Ray's tent experiences.
Thanks
