Hi.

I'm thinking of getting one of these however I have an older different marmot jacket and the hood never stays up, even in the slightest breeze, & has no wire to shape etc. Has the Precip similar problems?

Yes, the precip does not have any wire in the peak, which is a bit crap in strong winds as it deforms. You can however use the elastic tension'ers to get it stable and fitted to the head so that it does not blow off.

I use mine a summer jacket as it is fairly light and has good ventilation. I wouldn't recommend it for winter use.

Hi. Thanks Rocky (saying that in my head I use a small boy's squeaky voice, due to the influence of the little pic of Rocky, arms uplifted, and my memories of the movies). Looking at it for a spring to autumn jacket, bike use (I like the under arm vents on my current marmot jacket) and general man about town use.

Have tried on a ME drilite but that seems a bit heavy & warm for bike use.

Hi Eddy

Precip breathes quite well, though not as well as eVent. I liked the armpit zips which could be kept open in quite bad weather. A brimmed hat worn under the hood is useful too - keeps rain off the face, improves airflow and the hood doesnt blow off.

Havent tried a Precip jacket on a bike, but should think the hood is small enough to leave you with good side vision; might be worth checking.

Mine gets used around town - light, small, affordable and quite tough. My only gripe is that its not really long enough on me (6ft), so when it rains, shorts get wet.

Cheers Judy

Ended up getting a ME drilite plus as it  was reduced from £70 to £40 as my local outdoor store. At that price, I couldn't justify getting the marmot (at approx £75). Only worn once in inclement weather and it was fine (a bit warm as I expected, still I'm sure the weather will turn colder if I just give it time.

I bet you have very little trouble with the Drilite, mine is donkeys years old and still turns water but after a hardish life it was replaced with a Precip, both jackets are fine even at full price even better at sale price. My Drilite is now relegated to birdwatching jacket as it was too tatty for any self respecting hillgoer.
