Well, that confused me a good bit at first with the 'smart clothing' tag I must say; as I just thought first off it meant dressing smartly!  As a bit of a scruff I was worried! Till that is I twigged it was about the other sort of 'smart' clothing! A bit of a naff survey though, as I just had to answer 'neutral' to most of it. I just found out now in doing this that I've actually got more neutrality than Switzerland!

 Obviously 'smart clothing' is only interesting to young people with no experience... Ignoring the fact that some of us oldies have actually developed rather a lot of the technology that kiddies love to play with...

 Likewise I abandoned it almost immediately when I realised I didn't know whether 'smart' was meant to mean 'presentable' or 'clever'.....

 I was confused too. I assume it meant 'smart clothing' as in having integrated electronics to perform certain tasks or provide certain additional functions. For example, headphones and microphone integrated into the hood... My general feeling on the current state of such products (in case you are reading this Huichan ) is that they are 1) marketed towards the gimmick & gadget buyer and 2) almost immediately obselete due to the state of play of the technology. To elaborate... a high quality waterproof jacket might last 15 years of regular recreational use. 10-15 years ago, the cassette walkman was the norm; 5-10 years ago the portable cd player was the norm; in the last five years the ipod/mp3 player is the norm... in five or ten years hence who can predict? The 'smart' part of the clothing is likely to be out of date far faster than the 'classic' part of its function; meaning that either you'll be forced to replace your garment at far more regular intervals (and wouldn't the manufacturers love this!) or you'll be forced to carry around dated technology for most of the life of the garment. Now the obvious solution is to have garments that retain their function and which can have 'smart' technology distributed about the person and updated as necessary. Generally these are known as 'pockets'!!! As you can see, I am currently less than persuaded. That isn't to say that the idea hasn't got legs... actually I suspect that within my life expectancy, garments may well be far more than what they currently hope to be. Imagine clothing that was able to use some of my metabolic energy to open 'stomata' in the leeward side of the rain and wind... the possibilities are limited only by the imagination....

 I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything in the survey. Fwiw I've deleted the other threads, but left this because it made me laugh. There's an interesting assumption that people know exactly what smart clothing is, have some experience of it and are actually interested in the stuff. The only vaguely smart clothing I've used has been a couple of variations on iPod jackets and both were pretty useless

There was another survey posted by a guy on the same course that was altogether more coherent... HuiChun, I would recommend that you give some thought to explaining what you are referring to before reposting this link...
