Vaseline also works - much cheaper.

Good stuff, but what about a way of stopping pollen from getting into your eyes too, any ideas? (not goggles though)
|
 |
I was thinking that. As a non-sufferer, I don't really know but presumably sun glasses help a little?
|
 |
If they are close fitting wraparound glasses they'll help a bit but it depends on the conditions, when the pollen is everywhere they make no difference.

do they take away the eye irritation by making something else irritate to take your mind off of it. or do you put them in your eyes? jon, on a bad day it's like having sand in your eyes.

Just a comment - after suffering for years I found getting outside for long periods pre Spring seemed to build up a general immunity to the extent I'm clear these days. Now I'm not too sure thats the 'cure' or part of the aging process. But whatever thank G it works for me

Lavender oil=nasty rash (for me that is), If it came to applying essential oils I'd sooner put up with the hayfever. I use loratadine tablets (reasonably effective and I find they have no appreciable side effects), when its bad washing your eyes and face with plenty of really cold water is a good relief. I have heard that hayfever usually does go as you get older (roll on the day)

i find that air pollution aggravates the effects too. i rarely suffer abroad in clean air. from being born in london, then move to cheltenham for six years, move back to london and get hay fever! my one day record was three toilet rolls worth of nose blowing.

Snake oil... or in this case beeswax from the Zambia rain forest?! Come on, what difference does that make? It's wax. Unless a Witch Doctor has 'blessed' it in some way. I used to take anti-histamines but they all make me drowsy or feel ill after a few weeks. Now I use a steroid nasal spray which is the most effective thing I've found.

BC - you calling me older? (you swine)
Most probaby true - its been the last ten years (forty something ahem) that I've noticed the improvement most

i used to suffer from hay fever and found the homeopathic 'new era' hay fever tablets usually did the trick for me.
|
 |
Homeopathy - a clear demonstration of the power of the mind to influence our sense of well-being. Magic water remedies of themselves do not work - they are a placebo. But then placebos can fool the mind quite efffectively. Hayfever is an immune response - there are two types of immune response, called, imaginatively, immune response 1 & immune response 2. You cannot have both types of immune response at the same time. If you had thread worms or a tapeworm, the immune response would prevent a type 2 response to pollen. So, get youself a bodily infestation of some kind. A tapeworm would help you lose weight too.

I was never sure that I actually had a problem with pollen getting in the eyes; I think the eye irritation was a secondary effect from the histamine response to pollen up the nose. My ears also itched terribly, and I don't think I was getting pollen in the ears... I used to cycle wearing a surgical/DIY mask, and when I did that, I found that my eyes were okay. As for the homeopathic remedies, I think the tablets aren't really homeopathic, as they do contain 'active' ingredients (unlike the 'memory water' remedies). But they may still be a placebo.

Hmmm...Yeah, Thanks CB but regarding that remedy I think I'll pass. I've found that the reaction varys (I guess depending on different types of pollen), sometimes its nose and eyes, sometimes just eyes (the worst type for me), sometimes just that impossible itch thats right in the middle of your head....AGH!
