'99p store' 'poundland' am I sensing a theme in your leisure time, cp?!

Yup; a quick spin around each shop when I'm in town.  You'll find a whole raft of references to this sort of shop if you look at my posting history...

You forgot TK Maxx...

I don't see the point in spending more money than I need to.  I've been buying all my household washing products in pound shops for years.  Always decent, well-known brand name products (J&J, Procter & Gamble, Dettol, etc. etc.).  Anbody who pays full price for stuff in supermarkets when you can buy the same stuff for £1 is daft.

On the other hand, anyone who buys stuff in the pound shops just because it's in the pound shops (and therefore assumes it's a bargain) is also daft.

The ability to recognise quality and value is a useful skill...

Thanks for all the feedback you OM stars

I never bother with a towel now, even if I have the car.  I use a flannel, first for washing self then fold it, wring it out and use it as a towel.  Although it won't get you totally dry, it's as near as damnit.  I also use it for drying condensation on the tent, drips inside etc and for drying legs & feet after river crossings.  If a dark colour, it dries quicker if hung on the pack or on rocks etc.

Yeah, pound land and the like,oh and both Aldi and Lidls too I have this theory, anything that is going to go down the bog, down the drain of out with the refuse, I am not paying top dollar for, as it is a literal waste of money.

But scouring those type of shops throws up some very useful items at stupid prices. In life recogniseable name alkaline batteries, a third the price they are next shop along, a well known high street store. Compeed products for a quid etc. The trouble is, you cannot guarantee they will have what you want as they must get things in batches and just sell it till it has gone and onto the next deal.

But not everything is a deal there, sometimes something you pay a quid for, is cheaper elsewhere.

Being of a low income, in my town I have researched where to get stuff at the cheapest possible price and so my shopping trip is long, with plenty of exercise, but I win with how cheap I can get things.

But there is a problem, Cotswold Outdoor are just fitting out a new shop in my city, a very welcome action, but I suppose what I save elsewhere will be blown in their, I must resist the temptation to peruse. I suppose I could ask them when they are having a sale.

Microfibre 'Pet Towel' from the 99p Store. - Wrote cp.

'Woof, Woof!!!'

My cat has one of those too!

Whoops, sorry, that should really have been 'Meowwe, Meowwe!!!' there then I suppose, to be more accurate, in that particular case maybe!

Me too; been doing this since I was a student who wanted to save on washing towels...

Flannels are also useful for mopping up spills and leaks in the tent, too.  More comfortable and effective than the lighter J-cloths.
