Help me find somewhere to walk the dogs?
Long car journey ahead!

Driving from London up to the Highlands tomorrow morning for a week of Munroing. Yay!

We'll have two  labradors in the boot, and by the time we've been on the road for three hours or so, they will be needing a bit of stress relief. We'd like to give them a proper walk, not just a quick stretch of the legs at a service area. So can anyone point me towards a common, or dog friendly open area, where I can give them a decent run? I'm looking for somewhere north of Birmingham, probably Staffs or thereabouts, not too far off the M6.

Yes - I've tried Google Earth etc, but you can't beat a bit of local knowledge!

M6 Junction 12 for Cannock - then head for Cannock Chase - it's midway between Birmingham and Stafford so it sounds ideal for you.

Perfect! TomTom says 2h 50m from here. I think I've even spotted a car park.

Two dogs offer you sincere thanks, Paddy, as do I.

You're welcome. I accept the sincere thanks of your dogs. All I ever ask from dogs in return is that they don't leap up at me in 'friendly' fashion and wipe their muddy paws on me!

Someone local might be able to offer you more detail, but I just remember from passing the place years ago that it was quite a sizeable open space.

No, they wouldn't do that - paws are for floors, as we say in this household.

(We shouldn't anthropomorphise dogs, though, they really hate that .......)
