Hey, yeah! Don't remind me! It was where I used to like to get my BDH bottles and sealing bands for canoe use from in the nineties, for one thing! And they had some good very knowledgeable folks working in the stores there too then! I can almost hear an old Apple Records Mary Hopkins song coming on here! 'Those were the Days'
'Those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end...' 'Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we'd choose We'd fight and never lose Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days.' Mary Hopkins lyrics, Apple Records.

Well guys, I just now tried again there to take my basket through to the check out phase once more, but it just seems to be a real 'mission impossible' there. Sadly I do not seem to be a good enough IMF agent type either to be able to complete the shopping mission tasked me! The site just keeps throwing up the fact it has a fault, and if I try that escape route there mentioned - that Diddy kindly suggested I do - then I seem to get nowhere fast afterwards anyways either! Maybe they just don't want me shopping there or something! It certainly seems that is the way it is right now today, as things seemingly do currently stand! What a way to run an online outdoors kit business!!! I ask you!!!

I just tried once more for another shot at this, but the website is still well and truly knackered! It is quite impossible to take any basket of goods through to complete the checkout at the new FandT online store still, it sadly appears to be.

'Your message has encountered delivery problems to the following recipient(s):
webmaster@fieldandtrek.com Delivery failed 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for webmaster@fieldandtrek.com
No recipients were successfully delivered to.' Well now, I just found that I'd got this back from Field and Trek there too! My word they are in a worse state there than I'd previously first thought then! If one cannot even email them at the address they provide for emails, to tell them of the problem! I still too have no reply to my first email to their sales team there either! Just wonderful!

Looks like things are going from bad to worse on the F&T site Trevor and the entire site has gone tits-up now. Error 550 is a permissions error. It means that the mail server cannot verify who you are and will not allow you to send mail. In this case I think the reason the verification fails is because the server is down. I doubt there's much you can do until the boffins come in on Monday and fix it I'm afraid.

Well it does seem that someone is working on the site there a little this very day, indeed now, Craig. I noticed on going there today that a couple more pictures illustrating some of the goods have appeard in place of the 'image not available' markings there previously. I did actually too get my order through for my Pocket Rocket stove, eventually after a little bit of pain! It took me three tries today to get there finally though! In the end I had to actually deactivate my current FandT account, by logging back out; and then I started again from scratch using another email address, my old Wanadoo/Orange server one, and going right the way through re-registering my details to their site. That allowed me then to take a basket right through checkout finally, and thankfully, after that long drawn out process. Still, not very good really though is it at all, just as you say there.

 Congratulations Trevor...
You are now the proud owner of a new vaccuum cleaner!
We popped into the F&T (inside one of Mike Ashley's hideous sports places) in Kendal on Friday on the way to Wasdale. It was terrible, looked like a real fire sale. It was difficult to find anything that wasn't on sale.
At least this particular Field and Trek 'fire sale' though, most likely contains not stuff that has genuinely actually been in a fire, as was the case with their sadly unfortunate spontaneously combusting shop earlier on this year there!

Paddy, it is more of a 'blow torch' I'm hoping for there, rather than a vaccuum cleaner!

'Sent: 10 October 2008 04:29 To: Field and Trek Sales Subject: Problems taking things from online shopping cart to final checkout.
I was trying my best to take advantage of your great offer of free postage for the new site launch week, but find that for some site fault reason - the site is indicating a technical fault to me - that cart of mine cannot get through to the final check out stage at all it appears this morning! Trevor D Gamble' Reply from Field and Trek, monday 13th October 2008. Dear Trevor

Trev why do you persist with F&T? Horse. Dead. Flogging
It was only be sheer persistence that I got them to finally even admit they had a problem there though!
It seems you now have to open an 'account' with F&T before you can buy stuff on their website.
 They'll regret that.
Lots of websites seem to do that now, you know! I just also do wonder too though rather a bit, about some of the wordings on their current 'compliments slip' that comes out to one with an order delivery! A lot on mentioned on there now just does not seem too relevant pertaining to the new company, I rather feel. I rather feel right now that their current range is about the smallest one of any major outdoors store brand chain, that I've ever seen.

Their current compliments slip wording reads - 'Field and Trek is the leading supplier of clothing and equipment for the outdoors. From hiking trails to climbing mountains to travelling the world, we've got the complete choice of gear from the best brands available.' I don't think so!
