Having asked this question it's only right I review them. Quite simply they are great. They are far warmer than I ever imagined they would be, if anything I had to take them off to let my hands cool down, even in biting cold conditions. So having had winter gloves that really don't keep your hands warm and certainly don't warm them up once they're cold Buffalo mitts excel. For a touch over £20 I cant imagine there's anything close to them performance wise, I would say they are a must have for any winter trip out.

yes i must say that i find all the buffalo clothes very good

Silicone applied. How long will it last?
How well did this work Mike?

Only lasted 5 minutes? I just added a pair of the XXLs to my collection as overmitts (I need XL as standard although all my other makes of glove come up as M or L). Buffalo reckon two pairs are good to -40c, and the XXLs will fit over even my thickest other gloves. BTW, I got them here, Lansdale Ltd, in case anyone else is on the look-out. I hadn't heard of them before but the price was the best I could find, their email notifications reassuring, and the mitts turned up in 3 days via the free supersaver delivery.

It started peeling off pretty easily, Jim. I meant to try again with diluted silicone, as it would seep into the actual fabric, rather than just sit on top of it. I haven't got around to it yet.

why put silicone on the them is it for more grip ,as i do not have a problem with mine on the whole (but i guess it depends on what you are doing)

They feel nicer when i rub them over my skin. Not as nice as my custom rubber mitts though.

there might be a little too much information there mike !

I suppose it wasn't surprising Mike, they are very slippery. I guess you'd have to be careful that diluted silicone didn't soak into the pile too much

Does anyone know of any shops in Edinburgh that stock the Buffalo mitts? I think they're probably far too reasonably priced for either Cotswold or Tiso to stock them.
Edit: they're on the Cotswold website but I'm sure I didn't see them in the shop...

Glad to see this thread resurface after the recent cold snap. Apart from the last couple of days (which I spent in bed with a flu-like bug) I've been (lowland) walking a lot recently in temperatures around zero (but often with windchill). Like Simo, I've been really impressed with my mitts and, also, I've found out that they dry really swiftly too. Great value for money and very effective IMO.

My pair is about 15-years old. I've just been out sledging with the kids a,d let my son use them. They are a bit large for an 11-year old, but that isn't actually a problem. He had no coplaints - they got wet and stayed warm.

FM, Cotswold will order them for you. I just got a pair from the Birmingham branch, but had to order them in the right size. It took just over a week for them to get them.

Haven't seen them in Tiso's, but Cotswolds in Livingston always had them when I have been in.

After using Buffalo mitts for years I needed to replace them in early December. I went for the Montane Extreme mitts mentioned earlier, which have been worn pretty much every day since. They're pretty good, no regrets about buying them as such, but I think the Buff mitts are better - warmer, dry quicker, pack down smaller, more 'feel' getting through to your fingers so you can do stuff without having to take them off.
