Did anyone else watch Dragons' Den last night with Jay Cousins of Orikaso? (www.orikaso.co.uk) I have one of his Picnic sets excellent bit of kit.
Thought he did well to turn down the offers - they were trying to fleece him big time.

of course they were, they want as much as they can get for their money.
All though I thought the little clip of the woman selling the female pee aid the weepee??? Should of done some market research, and glad they turned her down. I bought a nice purple whizaway (or whatever it's called) for Kate last Christmas. This was a UK produced product and also available on the NHS!!! And I think that there where at least another couple on the market at the time as well.

Yup saw that too. Friend told me about Whizaway things last year too, or the other althernative... Travel John also known as the "wee bag" by BBC Top Gear viewers.
Yes, I saw it too. Thought he had confidence and bottle the way he dealt with them. I expected him to try to haggle them to 30% and take the money. But I hope it works out for him turning them down.

If nothing else he got his product onto TV and increased awareness. i hadn't seen the product(s) before but thought what a great idea - have to get some of them. The next step will to be show the lads, and as Duncan Bannatyne (one of the Dragons) says "The best marketing tool is word of mouth. Look after your customer. They'll then tell their friends and they'll come back for more".

i saw it, im sure i saw the folding bowls etc in a shop in keswick earlier this year, they looked good but were quite expensive.
cheers Andy

You can get them on Bob Cartwright's backpackinglight.co.uk site here.
I like the sound of that Whizaway! Crawling out of the tent in the early morning for a pee could become a thing of the past... Hmm....
Kate swears by hers when camping.
I'm not sure where you saw them in Keswick but the picnic set (2 of everything) is £13 from www.actionoutdoors.co.uk Costs more to buy then individually but still cheap.
Got the folding plate/bowl free with the titanium cutlery set from www.backpackinglight.co.uk, which is still on offer at the moment.
 Right.... have ordered one! :-)
A Whizaway, that is (have already got the folding plate).
So Kate is pleased with hers, then, Darren? Excellent!
she took the pee (sorry couldn't resist that) when I bought it for her last Christmas. But having used it while camping, she loves it.

Hi Guys
Just thought I'd drop in and say thanks for the support. You could probably use the dish as a weepee (although I wouldn't want to eat out of it afterwards :))
Enjoy your products and keep an eye out next year, there's more to come.
All the Best

Jay, all the best and look forward to seeing what you bring out next.
Show that Den how wrong they are.
 Jay,
Out of interest, were you really looking for financing or using the opportunity for a bit of marketing. Are those dragons really so horrible ?
I like the product btw but wonder where it fits into the lightweight backpacking philosophy. I tend to carry no plate or cup but just use an msr titanium kettle for everything but I can see the attraction of having extra plates/cupos for little space & weight penalty.
What I'd really like to see is one that you can cook food in (use as a pan). someone bought me a toasted sandwich maker last year that was effectively a plastic bag so perhaps the materials out there. Do that & perhaps you'll get some OM financing :-) . Steve.

Hi Steve
A bit of both, I anticipated the PR to come through, having watched the den before I didn't think I'd want to accept any offers made.
In terms of the lightweight backpacking philosophy some eat from pans I agree. But it depends what your eating. Lightweight and compact for me are part of travelling in style and comfort. Using our products means you can have a tea party for a whole group of people in the finest kitchen in the world. I like my fry ups, and outdoor cuisine fresh and not from the bag. In the US this lifestyle outdoors living is more prevalent, and starting to cross the pond.
As for the fold flat pan, it's in the pipeline, the more cups, plates and bowls we sell the quicker it will come.
Thanks J

Just in case anyone from the thread about getting your partner outdoors is reading...
...orikaso is a sure fire way of impressing the laydezze on her first foray away from the parlour. Just make sure you practice a bit first...
...dont however even think of taking along a 'weepee'...such things are best left to later stages of a relationship.
