Can anyone help with any information on Berghaus Paclite trousers, I quite like them and was concidering a purchase but have recently heard a few reports of these trousers breakingdown and small pinhead holes appearing after very little use. As these holes tend to get larger the trousers can be less than waterproof. Any one out there have any info they can share or anyone who uses these.

I'm not aware of a problem with Paclite developing tiny holes in normal, or any use, which doesn't mean that it doesn't happen of course, just that it's not happened to me and I can't recall anyone bringing it up on the site.

I'd suggest that if it did happen, it should be covered by Gore's lifetime guarantee as it's plainly not supposed to.

The main thing to be aware of with Paclite, is that it's a very lightweight fabric and not recommended for serious abrasive use, such as heavy pack use and mixed climbing etc.

I'd second Jon's comments. I've had a couple of pairs of these pants and love them - they're light, unobtrusive when worn (for overtrousers) and they work.

I have found that the fabric around the ankle gets shredded with use - thick vegetation, rocky ground etc; if you wore gaiters over them that wouldn't be much of a problem.

Wore a pair out on the PCT last year and the second pair is still going strong. A few of the aforementioned small holes appearing now of course but, for the weight, I ain't complaining. Small holes around the ankle, anyway, don't interfere with what I want from waterproof pants, which is something to slide down snow slopes in...

... did I just write that?

One thing I've noticed with Paclite 111 is the membrain and the inner layer seem to peel off if caught on something, as if the bonding to the outer is, well, rubbish. The old dotty kind never caused me any ills of this kind.
I'm aware this may be due to karrimor specifying pritstik as a bonding agent in their latter years.

Mine are going strong after a couple of years' use for walking - no climbing or scrambly stuff. I like them very much, and when they wear out I'll probably buy another pair.

Thanks for your comments. Unfortunatly Berghaus dont do try before you buy.

Do many manufacturers do try before you buy? I've not come across it yet.

I was considering buying a pair for the lightness of them. But I already have a pair of Berghaus Deluge over trousers that work a treat. At a third of the price I’d given then a go. The only problem I find is that there all 31’’ inside leg so they tend to hang off me leaving looking like some demented rapper…..

Ah, well. The rapper look is considered fairly sexy in some quarters, so maybe you're ok with the ones you've already got :)

Peewiglet, RAB are offering try before you buy on Event jackets - you contact them direct and they give you details of suppliers that are taking part in the scheme.
