I'm looking to lightweight my kit and am trying to decide whether the Snowpeak Titanium and MSR Kettle or the Jetboil is the best. I brew and eat (hiccuph) Wayfarer. Any preferances?

If you go for the Snowpeak then at the moment...
Cheap Snowpeak Titanium at Field and Trek

I recently bought the non-titanium version (decided not to spend £15 extra to save 14g - lightweight needs a sense of perspective imho), choosing it over the Primus Micron, Coleman F1 lite and MSR Pocket Rocket mainly because it seemed the most compact (except maybe the F1 but I found that fiddly). Early impressions are that I'm still happy with that choice.

The MSR kettle is versatile, but there are similar cheaper products available if price is an issue...
Ti-Lite Mug at Hike-Lite
The only real problem is that the handles can get hot but I've found this less of a problem with a canister-top stove and a partly-open windshield than on a multifuel stove with a fully-enclosing windshield - just don't let the flame up the side onto the handles.

I've looked at the Jetboil but never used it - it may well be efficient but it looks potentially unstable and I'm also a little wary of such set-ups with integral pots that don't allow any flexibility in what pot you use.

So I'd go the Snowpeak/ MSR route, but maybe I'm just too traditional!

Just for balance, I have a jetboil, and it's great. Quicker to boil than your other combination (or at least than an msr titan kettle and a pocket rocket, and more than capable for wayfarers.

And you can get converters to use the jetboil with conventional pans, and also a french press coffee kit, both of which work well.

Thanks for that. I've gone the Snowpeak route as weight was the motivation and I was keen to reduce size as well.

If you're going backpacking then the Primus Micron is excellent. It weighs only 95g, and takes up virtually no space. Highly recommended.

I'll second the vote for the jetboil. It is by far the most fuel efficent gas stoce out there so you'll probalby save quite a bit of weight in fuel alone. I've had three weekends out boiling water and cooking wayfarers and it still feels about half full. As Rob said there is also a pan adapter that will let you use any pan you like and it will store inside the pot along with the gas and stove. You will lose the efficency if you use another pan though as it's major advantage is the heatsink built into the bottom of the Jetboil pan/cup.

I've had the Snowpeak Titanium with the self igniter for a couple of years and can thoroughly reccomend it. With the Snowpeak mini cookset, everything packs down really small & very lightweight. Only drawback is the need for wind protection.

I recommend to make a windscreen for the Gigapower as it is very sensitive to wind.
